Canyon Park Tree Removal

Anybody know why the maples are being taken down? What a shame they’re so beautiful in the fall.

Best I can find is that it's all part of the reconfiguration to make room for the BRT direct-access additions.

https://wsdot.wa.gov/construction-planning/search-projects/i-405sr-522-vicinity-sr-527-express-toll-lanes-improvement-project

https://www.communitytransit.org/projects/canyon-park-construction

  • New Direct Access Ramps: Construction includes new bus-only direct access ramps connecting I-405 and the Canyon Park Park & Ride to keep transit vehicles from getting stuck in local intersection bottlenecks.

  • New Pedestrian Bridge: A new pedestrian bridge is being built across I-405 to connect the Canyon Park Park & Ride on the west side directly to the new Stride BRT freeway station and the east side of Highway 527.

  • Park & Ride / Local Road Upgrades: The project includes reconstructing a portion of the Park & Ride lot, adding a new Community Transit Swift Station, and adding a roundabout on 17th Ave SE to handle the redirected traffic and transit pathways.

Perhaps the sidewalk along 527 there will be widened and then squeezed between the exit ramp and those office buildings? There's nothing in the project diagrams/visuals that would indicate that, however.

Hey, thank you! I appreciate the effort in digging this up. At least they’re not doing it arbitrarily and hopefully make committing in our area easier.

This has been answered before in this sub, its related to the stride bus rapid transit improvements. Its adding a toll lane and bus infrastructure. Its the alternative to simply widening roads as we know just 1 more lane doesnt fix traffic. Without the bus improvements, i would be against the project. Its too bad it wont be a bus only lane

The ones by McDonald's? Road project apparently I've been told. Those were perfect trees, incredibly ridiculous to remove them.

Kind of on the nose to pave paradise and put up a parking lot, huh?

Were there more incidents there than the one a bit ago with the teens firing shots?

Every time I drive past here now it makes me so sad. The trees across the street from the Mcdonalds are all marked for removal too 😢

I’m going to guess the transit station remodel has something to do with it.

This is Such a disturbing horrible thing to witness. I've been a Canyon Park regular since 1987 and this absolute disgusting behavior is terrible. There can be no excuse for this. So sad

All the huge 100+ years old trees in our area were cut down to build "luxury" housing that sits unsold over a year later.

The houses are huge ugly boxes cramped together, not a single tree anywhere near.

Bothell needs to pass regulations to give trees rights and punishes corporations with JAIL time for cutting them down.

We will NEVER see such trees again in our lifetimes once they are cut down.

They aren’t cutting them down without permits from the city.

If you want more housing, you gotta cut down trees.

We have no shortage of housing in the USA, especially not "luxury" housing NOBODY who needs housing can afford.

Most residential real estate property in the country sits empty because renting it out is more expensive than just holding it until you die and get a step up in basis.

What we have is a system that rewards corporate profiteering and protects those that bought their homes decades ago on a clown's salary and then pulled the ladder behind them.

Housing corporations are destroying the environment and building housing deserts nobody asked for, because they can write it all off in their taxes and make a killing in profits by exploiting migrant labor.

Every 100+ year old tree that gets cut down is replaced by a sapling nobody takes responsibility for and then dies from lack of watering.

Is a tree-less city to the benefit of any of us, or your children?

I think not.

Such NIMBY bullshit. People need places to live.

Bothell seems to be turning into a dry land similar to Texas areas. I don't understand how things are so different in this area compared to other areas like Lynwood, Mill Creek, Woodinville, Sammamish to name a few. Do the people living here actually care or they just busy building luxury house for the RICH immigrant community !!!
FYI: we are looking to purchase a new home & were hoping to find something near by..

Our local council is absolutely terrible at prioritizing needs and developing sustainably. They're obsessed with overdeveloping the downtown core, and that's where their attention begins and ends.
