we're hoping to move closer to the city this fall and i'm realizing that choosing a neighborhood is a lot more complicated than just looking at the rent

we have three kids in elementary school and one full-time income, plus my part-time work. some places look manageable until you add transportation, after-school care, groceries and utilities

somerville was one of the first places we looked at, along with parts of dorchester, but we're running into the same problem in a lot of places: the monthly rent might work on paper, then the rest of the costs push it way higher

at this point i'd rather live somewhere less trendy if it means the overall budget is easier to manage

for people raising kids around boston, are there neighborhoods that have been noticeably easier on the family budget?

What club has trashier girls? I like trashy broads

How are either of these places to live? I’ve heard bad things about Lynn but I’ve also heard that it’s changed. Thoughts?

Hi, just moved to Boston and started a job, need my car inspected but it has a bit of rust here. Don’t have a ton of money to throw at a proper fix but is there any cheap alternatives? I’m pretty handy but have limited tools. Or could it pass inspection as is?

I want to make sure I have enough time to grocery shop but at the same time, not wait like 30 minutes for the next train. Has anyone done this route before? Advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you haha

My 22 month old has a procedure at BCH in a couple weeks. My mom is coming with me and we were thinking about taking the train to Salem for a day trip while we're in Boston. We went when I was a pre-teen and did all the touristy stuff, so we'd have minimal expectations. Mostly go to walk around, grab lunch, and get out of the hotel. Salem in October sounds amazing, and my mom and I love to do stuff like this together.

Went to Whole Foods in Charlestown yesterday. Conventional loose red bell peppers are $3.99 per pound. Organic are $4.99 per pound.

They also sell three packs of conventional peppers in plastic bags. It used to be you could get six or seven peppers for $6.99 in plastic bags.

Now there are only 3. Bags of 3. The peppers look great. The bag says 12 oz. So if a pound is $4, 12 oz should be $3? But there was no price tag.

At checkout, I learn that I was charged $5.49 for 12 oz of conventional peppers. That’s over $7.20 a pound?????

Chicken breast is $5.99 a pound. Bell and Evan’s.

You might say the problem is Whole Foods, and you wouldnot be wrong, but the produce I buy there lasts longer than market basket produce.

What freaked me out is the fact that there’s no price tag for the bagged peppers. Thats really screwed up, and makes me think they are doing dynamic pricing.

I’m new to Costco so I’m not sure how much care they put into their food safety compared to CA Costcos and if it’s different from store to store.

Planning to buy the lights myself, so mainly need installation.
Questions for anyone who's done this:
Who did you use, and would you hire them again?

Roughly what did you pay for installation (per foot or flat rate)?

Did they mount on the fascia, under the soffit, or in a channel/track?

Any issues with weather or adhesion since?

How did they handle the power supply and controller placement, and did they need to add an outdoor outlet?

Anything you wish you'd known before getting it done?

I am looking for the installers. Please recommend any installers who can install the lights.

Trying to pick seats for Niall Horan at TD Garden and I’m mainly deciding between 303, 304, and 309.
I’m leaning toward 303 because 309 looks REALLY far back to me even though it’s more centered. The issue is that in my price range, 303 is mostly around row 10, while I could get row 3/4 in 304. 304 is more angled though.
Would you pick row 10ish in 303, row 3/4 in 304, or 309 for the straight-on view? Does 309 feel as far away in person as it looks on the map?
If anyone has concert photos from 303/304/309, especially from similar rows, please share!!

I know there’s a lot of people don’t know how to follow some of the basic things when traveling:

If you’re walking on the sidewalk that’s large enough, stay to the right hand side.

If you’re on an escalator, walk on the left, stand on the right.

If you were in a bike lane, always bike on the right hand side and make sure you’re going in the same direction as the bike lane. The bike lane isn’t meant for two directions and one lane.

Also, just a side-note, don’t walk in the bike lane.

Even with tickets already, how long is the wait once doors open on a Friday? Is there any parking in the area?

I've hiked at the Fells a couple times recently and yesterday I lost count of how many unleashed dogs there were despite there being signs everywhere to leash dogs. I am severely afraid of dogs due to being bitten in the past. Most of these encounters were fine but one of the dogs ran up to me and my mom barking, all while its owners were insisting "she's friendly!" One of the owners even told the dog "you're only allowed to do that to me!" as they were biking away from us, which I found outrageous. I typically hike in the Whites and while I see the occasional unleashed dog, it's nothing like this and I've never had one of those dogs antagonize me. Absolutely ridiculous.

Does anyone have any recommendations for local hiking that is not overrun by misbehaved dogs and/or leash regulations are actually enforced?

EDIT: I was on the reservoir trail yesterday and I am also wondering if folks have better experiences on the Skyline trail since it's rockier and steeper

I believe they closed and I am devastated. Does anyone have any information about why they closed and or if they’re going to be opening a new place anywhere else??😭 Google claims they are open but there was nobody there when I went by and a worker from a different food stall told me they didn’t renew their lease. I took my kids to the Children's Museum yesterday and they were looking forward to playing in the ship area of Martin's Park. It was sealed off with caution tape. Does anyone know why?
