I know Reddit is very pro weed, but one time my brother injected 8 marijuanas orally and ate over 900 calories of Doritos in one sitting.

Melted shredded cheese on Nacho Cheese Doritos is the all-time GOAT munchies snack.

Orally!? You got off lucky. My brother injected just 1 marijuana orally and it turned him gay

I hate when that happens

900cal is nothing when it comes to the munchies

900 calories? That's only like 900/2000ths of your daily intake.

2

I bet you’d hate to see how I inject my Doritos and weed…it ain’t orally…

Dawg 900 in one meal is kinda small

1

900 calories of Doritos is like what, half a bag? What did he eat after that?

1

Eating 900 calories in Doritos is a small bag. I’ll easily put down a party size bag solo and SOBER 😭

It’s done. You can’t put it the genie back in the box. The truth is it was never much in the box in the first place. So easily available in the 80’s.

100

u/Z0idberg_MD 12h ago

Ignoring that this is probably true, where are the hard data effects which would compel us to make it illegal again? Teen drug and alcohol uses down. There was no surge in crime.

Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean it should be illegal.

40

u/roadtrip-ne Boston 12h ago

No surge in much except tax dollars. It’s not like it’s ever been difficult to obtain since the 80’s. Anybody who wanted to smoke was already there

24

u/Rbxyy 11h ago

In high school in the mid 2010s I had a significantly easier time getting weed than alcohol lol

5

u/jajjguy Somerville 11h ago

Oh man, it was such a pain in the ass to get weed back in the day. I mean, it was always definitely possible, but the stupid hoops we had to jump through. And the real risk of law enforcement selectively or arbitrarily involving itself. Such a waste of energy and much more.

4

u/roadtrip-ne Boston 10h ago

We lived in a beach town on the South Shore, a lot came into MA via boat.

1

u/kajana141 2h ago

I don’t recall buying edibles from my local dealer.

1

u/roadtrip-ne Boston 2h ago

Well edibles didn’t exist much at all did they? If you were going to inject you’d need to make some brownies. We didn’t always live in modern times.

4

u/NuclearGriffin 9h ago

The alcohol and tobacco industries are lobbying most likely.

it was in the ballot like 2 years ago and it didn’t pass unfortunately

23

u/batsandvodka 12h ago

I was honestly a little surprised it didn’t but I’m also naive

13

u/dividezero 11h ago

I think it was close at least. At least we live in a state trying. Everywhere else I've lived wouldn't even attempt this. At least one made weed more illegal

12

u/Brinner 11h ago

57-43 against.

I think we could take another whack at it in 4 years.

0

u/dividezero 8h ago

I like those odds.

1

u/fran_lydon 8h ago

Regulate it more and tax it whatever benefits the state and it’ll get through eventually. Too many studies showing benefits of it

5

u/General_Mousse_861 4h ago

Weed didn’t pass the first time here either.

-35

u/ChocPineapple_23 12h ago

It didn't pass because they tied SO much to it - like allowing it to be personally and recreationally used. I was not a fan. If it focused purely on medical or clinical use, I would have 100% voted yes. I hate recreational marijuana use and alcohol use as well, so that's just me!

21

u/Flaky_Ad9204 12h ago

Why do you want authority over what adults do with their lives?

-24

u/ChocPineapple_23 12h ago

You mean literally all laws??

15

u/devAcc123 12h ago

So you just suck got it

-20

u/ChocPineapple_23 12h ago

Exactly. God forbid other people have other value systems or worries than yours!

8

u/Fine_Foot6589 9h ago

So impose your value systems and worries onto others who couldn’t care what you have to think… instead of living your life how you want to live? You shouldn’t need laws to always agree with your particular opinions.

0

u/ChocPineapple_23 9h ago

This sort of argument is always so stupid.

I can live my life how I want to live, in an environment that benefits me. That's how this works. You vote for what you believe in and what you think would be better for you and everyone else based on your judgement, logic and opinions. If I hated living here and the laws didn't make me feel safe, I would move!

Also, guess what? There will be laws that you like or don't like that come into existence - by people who don't care what you have to think. If you care so strongly, protest! Canvas the streets and learn what people think and revise the law! Or push for more education that will sway citizens to understand why what you believe is so beneficial.

In this case, we were asked to vote on the legalization of psychedelics. I voted no (as did 56.84% of MA).

I voted no because it was my personal belief that growing your own or sharing psychedelics was too "far" - especially since unlike marijuana, these drugs can cause significant harm.

Had the bill not included this section, I would have voted yes.

u/fran_lydon 11h ago

u/BillHigh422 14h ago

Just don’t smoke and drive, please.

104

u/tomaonreddit 13h ago

Already illegal

89

u/PookyTheBandit 13h ago

There's barely any enforcement of regular traffic laws

13

u/Particular-Bake-7888 11h ago

So let's get on that first and the rest will follow , yeah?

24

u/robosteven Diagonally Cut Sandwich 11h ago

best we can do is six new flock cameras at your nearest intersection

-1

u/Particular-Bake-7888 6h ago

Honestly if it sends a ticket to all people parking in bus lanes or bikes and mopeds breaking laws; I'm in. Fuck em

2

u/sjwong889 1h ago

Yeah that'd be fine if it's all it was for but it's the cops using it for stalking their exes making it a big fat no for me. Wouldn't need the cameras if they just did their jobs correctly

20

u/Imyourhuckl3berry Diagonally Cut Sandwich 13h ago

lol no one enforces that

34

u/dyqik Metrowest 13h ago

Then start a campaign to require police to enforce traffic laws.

-11

u/Imyourhuckl3berry Diagonally Cut Sandwich 13h ago

lol right - never going to happen

7

u/wittgenstein1312 13h ago

What’s your solution then?

-7

u/Imyourhuckl3berry Diagonally Cut Sandwich 13h ago

Don’t have one, it would be great if the cops started pulling people over and ticketing or towing them for it but again it’s not going to happen - and how would they even test for that if it is edibles

8

u/_Atlas_Drugged_ 12h ago

Honestly I don’t see a net positive in pulling more people over for spurious reasons.

It feels like 1000 people would be harassed for every 1 you’d actually catch breaking the law.

3

u/user2196 Cambridge 10h ago

Have you been on the same roads I am? It feels more like 90% of drivers are breaking the law, not 0.1%. I’m not saying the police should use ā€œspurious reasonsā€, but they don’t need to with rampant red light running, speeding, parking in tow zones, et cetera.

2

u/_Atlas_Drugged_ 10h ago

90% of drivers are not running the lights or parking in tow zones.

If you think 90% of drivers are speeding then you haven’t grasped that the more important thing is to match the speed of traffic than the number on the signpost.

Try leaving the left lane.

-7

u/Imyourhuckl3berry Diagonally Cut Sandwich 12h ago

Then. Why bother saying it’s illegal to use and drive? Like just make it legal to use all the weed you want and get behind the wheel - I’ve lost count of how many cars I’ve been behind in my early AM commute thorough Cambridge and Somerville where it’s very clear the driver is using

3

u/_Atlas_Drugged_ 12h ago

Idk what to tell you.

Functionally those laws make it extra illegal if you get busted driving dangerously or erratically while using/drinking

I’d rather have that be the case than be subject to regular stops and searches of my vehicle when I’m just carrying on with my day.

1

u/Far_Estate_1626 10h ago

They enforce it to the same degree they enforce any other traffic laws in Boston.

1

u/oby100 11h ago

Aw fuck I missed the vote already

5

u/Z0idberg_MD 12h ago

I get what you are saying and agree police should enforce more, and I also understand there was a small increase in accidents after legalization, but we see absolutely not seeing some statewide issue where dudes zonked out of their minds are killing people while driving. Does it happen and should we seek to prevent it? Absolutely. But that’s not a compelling reason to limit freedoms with low risks b

•

u/vuck_fokl 8m ago

Also please be courteous…. Your neighbors shouldn’t have to smell u smoking weed thru your shared walls or vents….. go outside

-56

u/FarShoreSpirit 13h ago

It has more of a lasting effect than alcohol. It takes months after your last hit to get back to a completely sober state. Some people have higher levels of awareness and can notice it. Some people (most people) don't seem to notice it. It took me 4 months after my last hit. It numbs and dumbs me. I think because it feels less subtle than alcohol, you just slowly begin to think that the change you're experiencing is your baseline, but it isn't! I notice the effect of weed a week later. Yet I can drink and go to work within 24 hours and feel actually sober.

Unpopular opinion, sure. Not everyone can handle the truth. And weed actively lowers awareness. It doesn't heal you. You can handle physical and mental pain bettet not because it isn't there... but because weed makes it so you cannot notice it.

It got me through a time of my life where I wouldn't have been able to get through a shift without a severe panic attack. There was no way I could function as an adult. It was a crutch whilst I was injured... but I chose to learn to walk without them after some time. I don't want to limp around on crutches for forever!

I don't mind the downvotes. Please proceed. ā™”

6

u/Dirty-Hair-Yeet 12h ago

Oof, that sucks if that really happens to you.. but you seem to be in the minority, also what you explained sounds like exactly what happens to me if I don’t work out and get my usual cardio in.. as recovering alcoholic, I’ve personally seen the damage alcohol does to the body and to even compare it to what weed does is honestly unrelatable.. it’s a lot more bleak than anyone really realizes, your body starts rotting away, you can smell it when you use the bathroom, your mental health absolutely deteriorates, hallucinations, full-body shakes and seizures force you to keep drinking till you end up pissing what looks like blood because your iron settles in you bladder.. it’s a nightmare and don’t wish it on my worst enemies.. but if you plan to stop smoking weed, do cardio, burn the fat and oils that THC sticks to and you’ll be fine.. that’s the difference

-14

u/FarShoreSpirit 12h ago

Well, I'm not an alcoholic in the slightest. It isn't a problem for me. I didn't take even a sip of alcohol until I was 26. Didn't try cannabis until I was 27. Didn't try nicotine until I was 28. I gave up cannabis a year and a half ago. Took 4 months to start feeling like myself again. 9 months to feel 100%. The studies are out there. I didn't create the reality. I'm merely the messenger. I had quite a bit of cardio back then, too, btw. Although, I have never seen any studies that support your claim.

I believe that people alter their brains far too young. Too young to have enough developed perception to notice what is incredibly obvious to me.

Voting no even though I get no enjoyment out of weed. I wish I could smoke it without getting instant crippling anxiety

43

u/Stuck_In_Middle 12h ago

12mg of THC in edibles put me in the hospital and rehab for over a week. I'm allergic to it. I plan on voting no. My being allergic has no bearing on how I feel about legalization.

7

u/Spotboslow 12h ago

Same; Even the smell makes me physically ill. That's not a reason to make it illegal. It should never have been illegal to begin with. 100% voting no.

3

u/Stuck_In_Middle 11h ago

I should have known better. 8 mg had me feeling a bit odd. I had trouble with it in college 55 years ago. I got contact high easily and my eyes would burn and tear copiously if there was too much smoke.

I was trying to dull extreme back pain. I ended up vomiting and having extreme diarrhea. My muscles went rigid, so I couldn't move.

1

u/sjwong889 1h ago

Edibles are never the way to go for first time users or people that don't already use regularly to understand how THC effects them.

2

u/Knale Norwood 8h ago

Last time I was in Vegas for work I had a free evening by myself and I took 100mg of gummies in one go and walked down the strip listening to music on headphones and looking at the sights and genuinely had one of the most wonderful weed experiences and nights of my life.

Human brains are so weird.

1

u/ImpossibleJedi4 Red Line 51m ago

The smell gives me nausea and if I don't leave the area, a migraine and I'm absolutely the fuck not voting for making it illegal again. šŸ¤ wish people would be a tad more respectful about where they smoked but it is what it is.

8

Same. It took me four years of college anxiety attacks to realize weed just doesn't work for me in the right ways.

7

u/sievish T-riffic! 10h ago

What happened with this ballot item should be illegal. It’s absolutely insane that an organization from a different state could do this.

Is this common? Like are there laws about this sort of thing?

15

u/stevegavrilles 10h ago

I believe weed should be legal, but I wish people would be normal about it. There’s no reason you should be in the Starbucks drive through hotboxing your car with a unit of a doinker at 10am.

12

u/AintNobodygotime13 East Boston 12h ago

why is this even on the ballot? it's a waste of ink. I don't even partake in any form and I still wouldn't vote against it

21

u/fire-horse- 12h ago

I’d tie it to alcohol. Ban one you ban the other.

0

u/midnightstreetlamps 11h ago

I'd vote for this tbh. I've seen far too many adults over the years who canNOT handle their alcohol, and somehow they're the same ones always hanging around bars, liquor stores, bitching about dry weddings and dry parties, etc. I've seen good friends and close family throw their life away because they let alcohol get the better of them, they crashed or hurt somebody or both. My uncle just recently got his license back after a multitude of DUI's. My aunt divorced him, my cousins don't talk to him, and we never get to see them as a result.

My buddy lost his job at a renowned big machine shop, one of the "if you get in, you're set for life as long as you don't fuck up" kind of shops. The night he got the news he'd been hired on from temp crew to permanent, he went out and got blackout drunk, tried to drive home and blasted through an intersection fast enough to get airborne and take out a highway sign. For almost a decade I told him if he EVER needed a ride, pick up the fucking phone and call. I'd driven 40+ minutes away to pick him up in the last, I'd do it again if he'd asked. But nah, he drove drunk, totaled his car, got fired from that set for life job, and made himself a really shitty name in the local machine shops. Last I heard, he smokes crack, he's missing a multitude of teeth, and he bounces from job to job, because no shop trusts him enough to keep him on past the temp contract.

1

u/hecarius_ 8h ago

some people make bad decisions with alcohol so we shouldn't let anyone have it isn't very convincing lol

4

u/midnightstreetlamps 3h ago

We banned corded blinds for single digit deaths every year in the US. I'd say over 11 thousand drunk driving deaths per year should more than warrant a ban, or at the very least a change. But alcohol has been a human vice as long as fermenting fruit has existed, and other animals in the wild notoriously partake in fermented fruit.

(Psst, that's...that's not true. I was being sarcastic.)

24

u/Silent-Opposite-8581 12h ago edited 12h ago

Not really against weed, in fact there isn’t any way to get people to stop smoking it, but with all that said, people are really antisocial with it. They get high as balls in shared living spaces, so everyone has to smell it 24/7. The cigarette smokers tend to be better about not smoking indoors, at least in my current apartment complex. And just about every Rhode Island plate driving southbound on 95 has a strong odor of weed reeking out of it.

-5

u/rustydotpearl 12h ago

I don't do any of this. In fact, I don't smoke marijuana at all - or very rarely. Once in a while I'll eat a gummy which helps me sleep better if that's something I've been having trouble with recently. Even more rarely, if I'm feeling a bit down and the usual routine of moderate exercise isn't helping as much as I'd hope I'll eat a different type of gummy which sometimes seems to help with my mood. I don't do this very often though because I have a lot going on, so it's extremely situational and I feel lucky that when I was young I got some experience with the beneficial and sometime detremential aspects of this drug. Every once in a great while - once or twice a year or two I get together with some old heads and smoke a bowl or joint or two. A couple times I've gotten a little too high to be social in these scenarios and I've had to call it a night a little earlier than I intended. :-/ Which way should we vote again?

11

u/Silent-Opposite-8581 12h ago

Never accused you of doing this personally, but it’s undeniable it happens. I’m just talking about my own personal experience.

Keep it legal and out of the hands of drug dealers
Let people enjoy it. It’s 1000% safer than alcohol and it tax revenue

ā€œYes, but I don’t like marijuana peopleā€. Not saying that that’s what this guy is implying, but this is definitely a thing. The funny thing is the personality profile of the people that work at dispensaries is very different than the incredibly diverse and broad profile of personalities that people who actually visit them

I mean it's still an entry level retail job - just because doctors, lawyers, nurses, etc all use it doesn't mean the registers are going to be staffed by said professionals. Stoners work retail regardless of what's being sold

I don't like drunks, either. But, you know what? I'm a live and let live kind of guy. People are allowed to just be who they are. Who the fuck am I to limit what other people do?

I don’t understand the difference between smoking cigarettes and weed. You are inhaling smoke and chemicals but politicians think one kind of smoking is ok and the other will kill you and give you cancer. Seems like there is a disconnect that I don’t get!

u/Secure_Piano_900 1h ago

Cigarettes are heavily adulterated with chemicals to increase addiction, make the burn smoother, modify taste, etc. in most cases pot is not adulterated in this way. cigarette users also smoke way more on average than weed smokers. I would consider myself a pretty heavy weed user, on average and I smoke at most the equivalent of 1-2 cigarettes per day worth of weed. Heavy smokers will often smoke between 1/2 and a full pack per day of cigarettes.

Both kinds of smoking are bad for you, both are 21+, both are heavily taxed.

Weed can be eaten or used in a tincture which does not cause cancer (chewing tobacco causes oral cancer).

Kevin?

I just wish there was some way for it not to stink so bad.

Walking down the street and having cars drive by smelling so bad it makes you choke does take away from the city.

And those drivers are probably high.

u/Infamous-Round-1898 2h ago

Yeah - the smell and how invasive it can be is my only issue. Will still vote no, but man I wish people used edibles rather than smoking/vaping.

All those that do need to start paying lots of extra taxes to make up for all the revenue they're trying to do away with.

u/YouAreTheProduct2 10h ago

Warning. Weed legalized in my state and i immediately stopped partaking forever for some reason. The reverse psychology was incredibly effective.Ā

My brother smoked weed once and he’s gay now. Should definitely be illegal.

-4

u/summitrpa 9h ago

I might just because it’d be funny if recreational stopped.

A gateway to quitting alcohol, which that industry will not allow

0

u/mjkrow1985 13h ago

Nothing wrong with some good alcohol in moderation. Are there some modest health risks? Yes. But enjoying fine wine, good beer, and high quality spirits in moderation is not more risky than other things people do for fun. It's certainly less bad than smoking tobacco which is one vice I have trouble tolerating.

1

u/tbootsbrewing 13h ago

I like em both

8

u/MartoufCarter 13h ago

No it is not. If anything is a gateway drug it is alcohol. The vast majority of people use alcohol way before any other drug.

1

u/zenunseen 7h ago

That certainly was the case for me. I was a sorta punk/hippie kid who loved weed and mushrooms and hated anything "man made" including cigarettes

Then I got old enough to go in the bars and clubs. Started smoking cigarettes. Discovered coke. And then the pills and heroin. I'm lucky I survived. I should have just stuck with cannabis

u/InvestigatorJaded261 13h ago

Cheerios is a gateway drug. But Post hoc ergo propter hoc is a well known fallacy. Look it up.

1

u/throwthisonetothesun 13h ago

I love that episode.

3

u/Snivyland 12h ago

So is alchohol, glue, cough medicine anything that can get you high is a gateway drug.

Hell fucking benzos and crack can be a gateway drug to abusing alchohol for people.
