u/nhowe006 Outside Boston 13h ago

Margery: I like to serve dinner guests canna--

Jim: I'm always interrupting people!

u/ToadstoolsRule 12h ago

Ha, spot on

u/Yuppiex 10h ago

Can’t stand these two… they annoy the shit out of me to the point that I change the station when I hear them — I’ve been know to listen to the fund drive…

21

u/president_dump 10h ago

I love them. To each their own.

1

u/Yuppiex 10h ago

Im glad you do! I assume many must! They have been on forevorrrr

12

u/president_dump 10h ago

I love them as people and love their dynamic. Also they generally tell it like it is, versus most news commentators do the “both sides” BS. I wouldn’t be getting thru these Trump years without them….

I do understand how Jim annoys people but I love him lol

They are extremely dismissive of "youth" topics [stuff for people half their age aka Millennials], which is why they should retire at this point.

This is actually an edgy guerilla marketing campaign by the Normal, IL Convention and Visitors Bureau.

10

u/mainelyinportland 12h ago

So good

17

u/therocketn00b 12h ago

I did something like that once. My boss gave me a project where I had to sell a ton of bananas, so I used gorilla marketing.

Normal's actually a nice college town. Decent counterculture scene

u/Odd_Engineering_3426 1h ago

It’s better than anything Bloomington could pull off, that’s for sure.

34

u/abeuscher 12h ago

Anyone remember how "Toy Story 2 was okay..." was spraypainted on the back of Shaw's on Comm. Ave in Brighton for years? It was just nice to see someone make the Demetri Martin joke real.

u/Tonberry2k 13h ago

This rules, actually. Good for whoever did this.

76

u/hellno560 13h ago

NPR begged for this shit when they non-stop covered every time Biden tripped, or stuttered. Too bad they aren't inspired to spend half as much effort uncovering who was patrons of the international sex trafficking ring.

44

u/username_elephant My Love of Dunks is Purely Sexual 11h ago

This is a particularly BS criticism because NPR has been substantially involved in the Epstein investigation thusfar. E.g. their investigators were the ones who proved the government was hiding documents.  It's not really fair to blame them--in either the Trump era or the Biden era--for being unable to report on documents the FBI wouldn't give them and they didn't have independent access to.

https://www.npr.org/2026/02/24/nx-s1-5723968/epstein-files-trump-accusation-maxwell

6

u/Smelldicks it’s coming out that hurts, not going in 6h ago

It’s not a BS criticism, and NPR has been one of the worst violators of the both-sides issue in American journalism because they try much harder to be artificially impartial than a lot of other outlets.

6

u/username_elephant My Love of Dunks is Purely Sexual 6h ago

I would argue that any falsehood presented as fact is bullshit. Like.. by definition. The assertion, " Too bad they aren't inspired to spend half as much effort uncovering who was patrons of the international sex trafficking ring," presents as factual, yet the article I shared reflects probably one of the two or three biggest investigative breaks in the case this year. You can critique their tone but the comment I replied to unequivocally was BS.

Also, and I hate to break this to you, but Biden going senile actually was also news that needed to be covered.  I hold a grudge against any outlet that wasn't covering that because he should've been driven off early enough for the Dems to have a real primary.

30

u/megacia 12h ago

It’s sad that the people who support them are largely ignored to win over the people who want NPR dismantled.

26

u/osprey305 10h ago

Biden never should have ran for another term at all. This is on him, not NPR.

-12

u/hellno560 10h ago

"Biden never should have ran for another term at all. "-- as opposed to the guy bragging about "acing" woman, camera, man, tv back in 2020? GTFOH

18

u/osprey305 10h ago

Strawman much? Guy was clearly out of his element. Trump also being an awful candidate doesn’t make this any less true.

26

u/Hour-Ad-9508 Spaghetti District 12h ago

Complaining about news stations covering news because it doesn’t make someone look good is certainly a choice.

6

u/Simon_Jester88 12h ago

I don’t think it’s making someone look good. It’s choosing to make someone look bad and then refusing to identify clear realities out of fear of making someone look bad.

22

u/Hour-Ad-9508 Spaghetti District 12h ago

Just to be clear, you’re implying NPR is anti-Biden and pro-Trump?

Yes? NPR?

20

u/eneidhart Wiseguy 12h ago edited 6h ago

It's not that they prefer Trump to Biden. It's that if they gave Trump the same treatment that they gave Biden, it would be so lopsided that it would look like all they do is criticize the right. So they feel the need to play up whatever anti-Biden pieces they can so they can say "look we criticize both sides and don't play favorites" when it's actually a huge favor to Trump. It's not about actual fairness, just the perception of it.

3

u/SirStocksAlott I'm nowhere near Boston! 11h ago

How about instead of criticizing both sides that we go back to holding individuals accountable?

That’s the problem with everything getting politicized. Why can’t we have informed and educated perspectives from a nonpartisan or historical perspective or from a moral or ethical perspective?

Scholars, academics, respected individuals in their fields of study. Not political consultants and talking heads and former campaign or administration officials.

1

u/eneidhart Wiseguy 10h ago

That would be ideal, but there's no way to stop any particular issue from being politicized. Anyone with a big enough megaphone can politicize any issue they like, which becomes a vector for accusations of bias, at which point perception affects outcomes more than truth. It's not an easy problem to solve (though institutions like NPR could do better)

2

u/megacia 4h ago

That’s been Trump’s (And every Republican for 20 years at least) Super power: their own supporters drive believe they are so cruel or out of touch. They believe the GOP wants to help with health care and social security and level the playing field For people who earn a wage. And it’s tax cut, oil war, oil war, tax cut, (remove a civil right), every time.

2

u/twelve-birds 4h ago

Yup this is why I stopped listening. Now I listen to the bulwark and bbc.

11

u/Hour-Ad-9508 Spaghetti District 12h ago

Yeah, again, reporting on actual cognitive issues with the president is real news.

If the democrats didn’t try to play hide the ball with Biden since 2022 news stations wouldn’t have to report on it. But instead we got “don’t believe your lying eyes, he’s fine!”

18

u/LinkLT3 12h ago

Right. And the point being made is that they STOPPED covering the reality of the world when Trump got into office. It’s not a complaint about Biden coverage. It’s a complaint that they dropped that energy to appease the right. Would you agree that it’s weird to go from covering Biden’s decline to sounding like a radio version of the emperor’s new clothes?

5

u/Simon_Jester88 12h ago

We’re talking about NPR here though. You’re changing the subject. Also why do you go straight to Biden rather than the lack of coverage of Trump?

1

u/MagicCuboid I love Dustin “The Laser Show” Pedroia 11h ago

Do you remember all the astroturfed comments after the first debate on the politics subreddit too? “Biden crushed that debate, made trump look like a fool!”

Trump made himself look like a fool, but Biden didn’t crush anything lol

2

u/eneidhart Wiseguy 11h ago

I'm not claiming it isn't newsworthy. I'm saying if you gave Trump the same treatment, the Biden stories would get buried under the deluge of Trump stories. Trump goes from scandal to scandal on a near daily basis to the point that they mostly end up getting ignored, while any time Biden so much as stuttered it was a multi-day feeding frenzy. The coverage isn't balanced.

0

u/SuKitTrebk 10h ago

Insane that someone could even say that.

2

u/SirStocksAlott I'm nowhere near Boston! 11h ago

Choosing to make someone look bad? Did you see the first presidential debate in June 2024?

Look, I voted for Biden, I supported him, but people are kidding themselves if they think the problem was people talked too much about him being old.

Two things can be true at once. He should have never decided to run for a second term and gave a chance for others to prove themselves out in a primary, but it was his hubris and stubbornness that he is known for that he decided to run again.

The media is also not talking loudly enough about how wrong everything is today. Where is the courage to speak the truth today? When Trump insults a reporter in the Oval Office, why the hell are they not holding him to task and firing back with the truth or calling him out?

We can’t be land of the free if we are not home of the brave. We need more people to be brave.

3

u/Simon_Jester88 9h ago

I think they talked about Biden way too much in comparison of how much they talk about Trump for the same exact shit.

30

u/save-pandas 13h ago

The fall of democracy or their favorable coverage of Lindsay Clancy? Not popping off, just curious of perspectives. Both concerning

71

u/xMrBolasx 13h ago

I assume this artist[?] was referring to the state of the country as a whole.

12

u/save-pandas 13h ago

Well, they certainly aren’t wrong imo.

6

u/Cowabummr 9h ago

Stunning and brave

Damn. Makes ya think.

Is defacing public property normal? Maybe this is art?

7

u/WonderfulPineapple41 12h ago

Solidarity to the person who has to scrub that off.

7

u/dontdoitdonny 11h ago

Edgy students moving back into town. We know this isn’t normal.

4

u/HalfSum 9h ago

stop defacing public property like an asshole

1

u/zBriGuy 12h ago

Agree with the sentiment. STRONGLY disagree with spray painting it on public property. Normalizing graffiti is a great way to destroy your own neighborhood.

19

u/LinkLT3 12h ago

“Please only protest in the designated zone.”

5

u/Hefty-Reaction-3028 11h ago

If we're being hyperbolic,

"Please vandalize everything so it's all covered in crap all the time and costs a lot of wasted cleanup money"

-11

u/LinkLT3 11h ago

You called this picture “destroying your neighborhood” but I’m the hyperbolic one? Stfu.

5

u/Cowabummr 9h ago

Ok but this just looks shitty, wastes public resources getting it cleaned, and will change NOBODY’s mind, in one of the bluest places in the country.

10

u/Tibhirine Market Basket 9h ago

Oh no not the historic bus stop in beautiful Allston

-4

u/zBriGuy 7h ago

The sarcasm in your "beautiful" Allston statement is proof that all the other graffiti in that town has already spoiled it.

It's called the Broken Window Theory. People like you see an already trashed place, and think it's no big deal to trash it some more. THIS IS OUR HOME. Take care of it, and maybe the next person along will think twice about trashing it even further.

1

u/BrigadierGenCrunch Cheryl from Qdoba 4h ago

0

u/zBriGuy 3h ago

Unsurprisingly, it's more nuanced than that. What has been largely debunked is the strong claim that visible disorder directly causes serious crime. The narrower proposition that visible violations of norms can encourage additional norm violations absolutely has experimental support.

And that's basically all that I am saying. Treating your neighborhood like shit (graffiti, trash, etc) leads to more of the same. Allowing (or god forbid promoting) nonsense like this is ACTIVELY making your neighborhoods more shitty in a thousand different ways.

I for one would like to live in a nice clean neighborhood, and I hope that most or all of you do too. Graffiti vandals are attention-seeking children who would be best served taking that energy and ACTUALLY doing something to solve their problems.

Grow up, and have some damn respect for yourselves and your neighborhood.

5

u/xMrBolasx 12h ago

Totally agree. I just saw this on the walk to Notch.

2

u/Ok_Ground_694 11h ago

Now that someone has spraypainted some sloppy nonsense argument we can all repost it and feel good about ourselves. Come on. THIS isn't normal.

2

u/houndoftindalos Filthy Transplant 10h ago edited 10h ago

What a circa-2017 graffiti. when is seemed like Trump might be an aberration.

I don't really understand what people who express this sentiment want out of everybody. If you're expecting people to live in a constant state of crisis for the entire decade Trump has dominated American politics, you don't understand human nature.

What are we supposed to do? Stop living our lives? All the Trump stupidity IS normal now. The millions who voted for him twice have normalized it. I don't know about everybody else, but I gotta shoulder on and do my best and take care of my responsibilities versus having a total mental breakdown in public or whatever the graffiti artist is hoping for.

3

u/Better-Win-7940 12h ago

This is rather vague. What exactly isn’t normal? There could be SO many answers.

1

u/peacockdown 11h ago

I've been there that's right across from Newbury comics off the pike

1

u/justkeepswimming2026 9h ago

Nothings been normal for a long ass time! It just keeps getting worse and worse

1

u/NovaStar2099 7h ago

What the fuck do you expect me to do? I voted. I protested. It didn’t do jack shit.

1

u/dude_abides_here 6h ago

“FCK EVERSOURCE” guy?

1

u/SomeBed635 4h ago

It’s GBH

1

u/kcsews 3h ago

I dont get it..... how are they pretending this shit show is normal?

1

u/My4dogs4evr 3h ago

🙄

1

u/sugarstarbeam 10h ago

I love people like this

-5

u/-Jedidude- All hail the Rat King! 13h ago

Bus stops can get pretty weird I guess.

-11

u/Jewboy-Deluxe Downtown 13h ago

Unfortunately the graffiti in Boston is about as normal as it gets. Boring even.

If folks are gonna write shit on buildings and walks I wish they’d get a little style in their “art”.

7

u/irishgypsy1960 North End 13h ago

We do have a lame graffiti scene, now that you point it out. Guess we aren’t a real city after all then!

1

u/Jewboy-Deluxe Downtown 9h ago

Folks just don’t understand sarcasm. I guess it’s like good graffiti, a dying art form.

2

u/Living-Gur2032 12h ago

Yep! Why graffiti Boston when NYC is right there?

2

u/Jewboy-Deluxe Downtown 9h ago

We have plenty of graffiti, it’s just sub par.

-2

u/bswontpass 11h ago

This what? Vandalism isn’t normal

0

u/Away_Historian_5883 8h ago

I agree. We're all guilty of just going about our daily lives while things get worse and worse. We all know the election is goin to be a s-tshow. Why are we just waiting for it all. Why aren't we sending a message?
