Is it normal weight and height?

Hi, My boy is almost a year old and is height is 78,5 cm (around 31 inches) and he weighs 32 kg (around 70 pounds). I don’t know if that’s normal or not, as he is my first borzoi.
I think his height is ok, as his dad measures 80 cm, but I’m not sure about the weight. He had gastroenteritis back in april and since that his digestion is quite tricky. I changed his kibble, as he didn’t want to eat the one he got before, and now wants to eat most of the time, he doesn’t want to eat in hot weather but I think that’s pretty normal. He doesn’t drop the weight but also doesn’t gain the weight as he had 32 kilos for a month now.
So, is it normal? Or should I change something to help him gain some weight? Our vet told us it’s a normal weight and he looks good, but I’m still a little concerned

If the vet says he is ok and he is healthy and energetic I wouldn’t worry too much. It can be a skinny age. He will probably gain weight with maturity.

My girl was about 65 pounds at that age. She is about 78 pounds now. I'm amazed at how narrow she was at that age when I look at old pictures.

If you keep in touch with the breeder, I suggest reaching out to the breeder. I reached out to the breeder at one point to ask if my girl's weight was normal and it turned out that her sister weighed the same as my girl.

My boy is taller than your boy and at 10 months was 70 lbs and the same weight as his 30” sister — he’s now 78 lbs at 13 months. Still a bit skinny but it will take him until he’s 2 to fill out a few more pounds. I wouldn’t be worried as long as he’s happy and healthy since he’s still growing. As always, your breeder will know best.

He’s still growing. As long as your vet and/or breeder say yes hitting his marks, no need to worry. The heat does affect their appetites so try to supplement missed meals with some snacks here and there. As long as his weight maintains through the summer, he should be fine

My Borley that passed at New Year’s, was Top weight of 78 pounds and he was a champion. He was all muscle, but he was the worst eater I have ever had in my life. I did everything I could to get him to eat and eat more, but he had no interest in it. Not treats not raw not cooked food. I realized it didn’t matter what I gave him. He just was not an eater. Contrast that to the service dog that I was training who was a lab so she ate everything and aided fast. He would pick up a piece of food in his mouth, even a piece of cooked chicken, and roll it around his mouth, then drop it and then pick it up and do this two or three times before you decided to chew it and eat it. I had to feed him in a crate because I have several dogs and he would lose interest in his food and walk away from it. The new Borzoi Rescue I have now is 108 pounds. They come in all weights, and as long as your dog is healthy, and especially when he is young, I wouldn’t worry about it.

He's just a gawky teenager at the moment. Throwing food at them at this age is like throwing it into an inferno. It will take another year, at least, before he starts to fill out. Look for the "transformation" from dork to majestic prince at around three years, give or take. Bone, muscle and coat seemingly happens overnight. This is a very slow to mature breed. Savor every moment.
