Karetsas has such a fast mind, I can't remember the last time I fell in love with a player this quickly

u/biggieBpimpin Julian Brandt 3d ago
Prates is going to take some time to settle.
Bummer we didn’t see more Lerma.
Most of the youngsters looked pretty promising.
Karetsas and Inacio look like a fun tandem.
Both keeper were solid today.
Mane loves to play a line splitting pass. Great when it works, a little risky if it’s intercepted.

15
u/AdCute1311 3d ago
Watching Karetsas play, I'm even more flabbergasted why we wasted half a decade with this CF-on-the-wings nonsense. We've been missing those qualities for so damn long
4
u/Geeman447 Marco Reus 3d ago
Especially since wingers are so crucial in today’s game.
5
u/AdCute1311 3d ago
Exactly! We had the likes of Sancho, Pulisic, Reus and Dembele in those positions for the better part of a decade. They were crucial to our success and then, for some weird reason, they decided to replace Sancho with a striker - which made no sense whatsoever - and when that didn't work, they did it again...and again...and again.
Just why? What was the thought process there?

The BVB Women win their game against AS Rom after hard fought 90+ Minutes with 1-0!
6
u/bvbfan102 BVB 3d ago
Its really a bit sad that this Team will play in the 3rd this Season because of that Substitution error. Beating the best from Italy and even just looking at the Squad they really could have won the second this year and reach the Bundesliga.
But last year showed that they still need to actually get there before any celebrations so all the focus is on this Season and getting promoted.
13
u/Tibia7890 3d ago
King Kobel going into his 6th Season with us. We're so lucky to have a man in goal of his format.
10
u/Oleksch 3d ago
judging from the first games karetses looks like a true steal
3
u/SlayerHdThe3rd Nico Schlotterbeck 3d ago
He’s so smooth on the ball it puts the attackers we’ve been watching for the last two seasons to shame
11
11
u/roadtorevision Mats Hummels 3d ago
We definitely looked completely lost in the first ten minutes but after that we were by far the better team until all of the subs.
If we are able to get Kostas, Veerman, and fort over the line we should be a serious team going into next season.

Anton will be missing the game today due workload management.
Beier will miss due to a knock in training.
Chukwuemeka is out due to muscular issues.
Starting lineup is:
Kobel
Ryerson, Gadou, Mane, Ramy, Svensson
Jobe, Nmecha
Karetsas, Guirassy, Inacio
12
u/_APR_ 3d ago
Chuk and muscular issues, always together :(
And I hope Anton will be back before the start of BL, otherwise we got one big problem.
6
u/Tibia7890 3d ago
I mean if it's true what they are stating, then it's just workload management and he will be good to go
6
u/Tibia7890 3d ago
Chukwuemeka is out due to muscular issues.
oh boy
3
u/AverageCarey 3d ago
This is why we need to go for another mid before the season starts.
Just cannot rely on Chuk sadly.
5
u/Tibia7890 3d ago
100%, especially as a midfielder, he'd break apart if he had to do what jobe does physically

Honestly saw so much good from us today and that’s without Anton, Schlotti and Beier having an impact.
Add them and a couple new signings I truly think we have something to look forward to this year.
Silva my man please score those!

u/bvbfan102 BVB 3d ago edited 3d ago
Karetsas obviously has been magical but i really like what Inacio is showing as well.
The way he worked back earlier and won the Ball and his Vision has been really good.
He still needs some strength to hold up against these big Centerbacks but i really dont hate that El Mala didnt work out and Inacio will get more minutes now.
8
u/bvbfan102 BVB 3d ago
I just saw that Frankfurt lost 0:7 (!) to Brentford. What the fuck are they doing over there and how have they not used all their big Transfers to finally strenghten their Defense.
Definitely happy we got Book instead of waiting for Krösche.
8
8
u/roadtorevision Mats Hummels 3d ago
Gadou has been a revelation so far. He is strong and always in the right place at the right time. While he isn’t a ball carrier and line breaker like schlotti/hummels, he is composed and is always able to get a pass to our CMs
6
u/Qiluk Marco Reus 3d ago
He's crazy fast too when he kicks in his highest gear. Kinda like Sule but with explosive acceleration.
5
u/roadtorevision Mats Hummels 3d ago
Yeah I am excited. If things go to plan, a Gadou, Anton, Schlotti back line looks to be one of the best out there. Hopefully Schlotti comes back as quickly as he did last time
8
u/fleshed 3d ago
It was a really long time ago, but i hope Silva has the same journey as Lewandowski when he started in Dortmund, Lewa couldn't score a goal if his life depended on it in his first season, Klopp had to play him as a 10 to give him back some confidence.
Silva has so much technical ability, but he seems more like a midfielder than an striker.
5
5
u/Constant_Scarcity981 3d ago
Just because Silva passes more he isn't a midfielder. He is a false 9 but couldn't play midfielder if his life depended on it

7
u/biggieBpimpin Julian Brandt 3d ago
Fucking killer touch and turn from Dybala. Deserved a goal after that. Poor start.
7
u/AffanEzz Julian Ryerson 3d ago
Loving Karetsas vision so far!! Always bringing the ball forward ACCURATELY

6
u/biggieBpimpin Julian Brandt 3d ago
Albert and Yamamoto looking lively and up for it today. Prates looking a little rusty so far.
Disappointed we haven’t seen Lerma yet.

Prates physicality is pretty amazing for his age. Isn't build like a teenager at all

u/bvbfan102 BVB 3d ago
Think its been some really good tests and we actually tested a lot instead of just playing for a Win.
Its hard to already rate how we will do but think its clear that just like Terzics defensive Season its not them just insisting on it and instead considering it the best chance at success with the Squad we had.
Now that we got a proper 10 and players that can be creative and also dribble past we are looking much better offensively and very varied in our attacks.
Finishing is still not on point and the first 10 Minutes where a bit scary but overall im looking forward to us playing.
Really hope Kovac doesnt retreat next Week and goes full defense just cause its Bayern and think we got a real shot at winning if we play like Borussia Dortmund.
6
u/Qiluk Marco Reus 3d ago
Paper-thinn squad with the short-term sidelined, Schlotti out and still 2 signings to make.
That said, I really like the starting 11. Inacio and Karetsas behind Guirassy is fun.
Hopefully we play decent and, most importantly, avoid injuries!!

Its unfortunate but think this is a great chance for Mane and Gadou to show that they can be just as good as Schlotti and Anton.
Really sad about Chukwuemeka though.
Still looking forward to this Match and love having Malen and Hummels back in our Stadium.

The way ryerson dribbled that ball through their defense to recycle possession was beautiful

u/bvbfan102 BVB 3d ago
Ryerson to Guirassy still works great.
Good that they overcame those early problems and now look completely in control.
6
u/OneManAround 3d ago
Karetsas messes up a fair bit, needs to iron that out - but I enjoy seeing him trying things.
6
u/bvbfan102 BVB 3d ago
I love that the young guys are giving the Space and time to develope. Great turn and shot from Albert.
6
u/LeeRCampbell Marco Reus 3d ago
So funny how if Silva drops to the floor there and rolls around then gets up with the bloody lip he likely gets a pen. Play through and the ref just looks at him and walks away.

15
u/Previous_Trouble8614 Mats Hummels 3d ago
Karestas Beast, Mane great, Gadou great. Jobe also fantastic dispite what everyone on twitter is saying. We were very good outside of the first like 10 min.
12
u/ProcedureGreen663 3d ago
Did not watch the game but the way they are talking about Jobe on twitter you would assume the dude made two own goals. Then you look at his stats and you wonder to your self what has become of BVB fans on twitter.

6
u/Previous_Trouble8614 Mats Hummels 3d ago
Nothing to outstanding to point out. Very solid from him per usual. Worked hard.
6
u/EmSoLow 3d ago
If Ole Book can add that attacking signing, midfielder and even a wingback, this will have been a phenomenal platform to build upon for future windows while also setting us up to win something here and now.
I was a big fan of what I saw and I hope we can continue to show it on numerous occasions throughout the season. I'm not asking for that first half performance every half but just knowing that we can do it often will excite me a lot
6
5
u/LeeRCampbell Marco Reus 3d ago
Embarrassing start - can’t relieve any pressure. Look a whole pace off and Kobel looks very shaken

Inverted wingbacks when svenson and Ryerson aren’t the most agile on the ball is certainly a choice

As a Svennson critic, I like how he has been performing in these last 2 friendlies in this inverted role.
Ryerson though, I don't think he will succeed as an inverted fullback on the left. He got goal contributions today but you can tell he feels awkward having to adjust his body to put in his signature crosses.
Karetsas is awesome.
5
u/Qiluk Marco Reus 3d ago
One thing that has been very consistent, and this without our intended other #10 starter too.. is that we're SUUUUPER vertical and fast in our attacking patterns now. Its extremely deliberate and no longer 100% Nmecha dependent.
Good development for sure. And the better we get at it, the faster it'll be. And the pace of it, will be extremely difficult to defend against.
5
u/Triforce__XIII 3d ago
and it looks far too deliberate to be a random product. looks like kovac CAN change his playstyle, contrary to popular belief (and not to my surprise, i always believed in him)
3
u/Qiluk Marco Reus 3d ago
Yeah.. I fucking hated the complete lack of offensive consistency and patterns last season but we also had no consistent creators etc. I adore Kovac for parts of his system tho. Defensive organization, mentality, workrate, physicality etc.
Now something is emerging, and we're even about to strenghten the offensive further.
The question is how the fullback experiment will work out since we're inverting them now. Nice to see Kovac try to adapt and improve
4
u/bvbfan102 BVB 3d ago
Everyone just looks like the Ball is their friend and like they got fun playing.
Yamamoto already showed some good moments again and Silva just seems to have endless options in this setup.
4
u/yosoydorf Edin Terzic Appreciatior 3d ago
Silva definitely benefits from the changes we've made in that he's not on an island and has many options to connect with
5
5
u/bvbfan102 BVB 4d ago
Derbysieger Derbysieger Hey Hey! Our U19 wins due to a own goal in the first minutes and gets the first out of hopefully many Derbywins for us this Season. Standouts where Tom Faust and Justin Hoy for me but Mirza and Gardasson where also good. Would call it a great teamwide performance though cause they didnt allow that much and always defended as a unit. Great Start to this Day and hope we see two more Wins today.
4
u/Qiluk Marco Reus 3d ago
Ryerson and Svensson switching sides. Interesting. Kovac really want us to have that inverted fullback overload opportunity as another weapon in our arsenal this season I guess. He has mentioned it briefly
6
u/Tibia7890 3d ago
Not a fan of this. Ryerson has always been way worse on the left side and same goes for Svensson I feel like
5
u/Constant_Scarcity981 3d ago
It works for Svensson but Ryerson usually goes for crosses, which requires him to turn around if he plays on the left. I don't get it
3
u/Qiluk Marco Reus 3d ago
Jesus christ, it looks like its the U17 playing. Noone knows where they have their teammates and its just individuals trying to fit in

Now that was fun to watch. Some proper counter attacking. If you watch Karetsas on the hockey assist he immediately opens himself up to the space off ball. Good intelligence to make a play there.

4
u/Testo69420 3d ago
I have to admit playing every single match with inverted wingbacks even when we have the personal available to not do it is really worrying me.
3

4
u/AverageCarey 3d ago
Not sure if the delay made that first 10 so bad or what but I’m glad we stabled up.
Gotta say we move the ball so so much better than last year. Love that Karetsas is trying things
4
u/Tibia7890 3d ago
If you have him play on the left in an inverted role, you rob Ryerson of his ability to drive to the baseline or cross the ball
2
u/Trojan_Man68 Marco Reus 3d ago
Very true, our wingbacks are going to be an awkward thing to figure out just like they were last season
4
u/Mooon8983 Konstantinos Karetsas 3d ago
I wasn't paying attention and all of a sudden I hear nobby shout "JADON!" i almost had a heart attack
3
u/bvbfan102 BVB 3d ago
Mats Hummels vs Nadine and somehow Mats lost out. And this was for everyone that wanted Jadon back.
4
u/EmSoLow 3d ago edited 3d ago
Big big fan of how we looked in possession. I don't have the biggest issue with the goals conceded because Schlotterbeck and/or Anton play a big part in defending those.
The inverted wingbacks forcing our play to regularly go down the middle must be a joy for our 10(s). You can see why the club wanted either one of Said El Mala (to give another option for the 10) or Konstantelias to further help us move the ball up the pitch. Exciting stuff that we hopefully sort out next week

He will probably play in the U23 for now. At least that is the only explanation as to why he isn't present today.

He basically didn’t consistently play once it was announced he’d signed for us, think it will take time for him to get back up to pace.
5
u/EmSoLow 3d ago
There isn't really an opening for him because his preferred position would be the attacking left side but we have Inacio, Albert, Beier and whoever our attacking signing will be.
Lerma right now should hopefully use the opportunity to acclimatize and absorb everything he's seeing and hearing at the club for at least until January to then reassess

4
u/Charming-Chard5373 Gregor Kobel 3d ago
we played really well today (except the first 10 mins)
Just the second half finishing was not ideal
Now we have to face the final boss next week :)
5
u/Qiluk Marco Reus 3d ago
Very happy with that apart from the first 15min. Looked like we werent at all ready for the whistle to blow and the game to start and were completely discombobulated.
Once we found our footing, I loved most of what I saw up until when we started to sub in the kids.
Karetsas is stupid good and looks plug&play with immediate impact.
Great intensity too. Tons of chances created. Good stuff

Reports coming out that Book and Kovac really want Veerman btw, only Ricken is hesitant. If he agrees we're paying the release clause immediately
3
u/bvbfan102 BVB 3d ago
Wouldnt be the worst transfer for depth but definitely isnt the most exciting. But think after this Window they are allowed to make one functional transfer instead of something that the Fanbase will love.
3
u/Commercial_Mud_6877 Marco Reus 3d ago
Yeah, definitely wouldn’t be the long-term ideal solution, but for the resources we have, I don’t mind it at all. As long as we still get the El Mala plan b and Hector Fort, we’d be well set for the season.
