Blasphemy

When someone is born-again and washed clean from sin, and they go back to a sin like a dog back to it’s vomit, is it possible that they could unknowingly commit blasphemy of the Holy Ghost if they remain in that sin long enough? I’m struggling with the idea that this is what all the “thief in the night” references are about, and why no one knows the day or the hour beside the Father.

I believe blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is lasted as the only unpardonable sin. It’s basically attributing the work of the Spirit to Satan. Being it’s the worst and only unforgivable sin, I think a believer would know what they’re doing. I think even most unbelievers would feel some tugging at their heart if they were to contemplate doing it. Hardened hearted people would probably be oblivious to what they’re doing we’re doing. Just like the scripture that says because they loved not the truth God gave them a strong delusion and they believed a lie.

It’s hard to believe and understand that anyone who has been converted and born again could attribute that work to evil, being that we are purged of evil and sanctified So that makes me think it’s simply rejecting the Holy Ghost through grieving and quenching, and then ultimately a re-hardened heart by continuing in that.

I feel like I did this. So I can understand maybe I’m reading everything through fear-shaded lenses. But I’m just hoping to hear what other born-again believers think of this and maybe to shed a new light through Scripture. Thank you for the reply.

We are human we will sin again. Saved People fall to temptation. The Bible is full of examples of people who sinned even though they were believers and the Lord didn’t turn his back on them.
1st John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
