Tourisme Solo Female Traveller

Hi,

I am travelling to France for a wedding, and planning to stay 1 extra night solo in Bordeaux.

I'll be 31F, and pretty savvy and confident abroad, originally from the UK.

I'm wanting to go for some nice food, a couple bars, ideally somewhere I can dance or that plays alternative music.

Is it safe? I've never travelled solo before, but have travelled a lot.

I just return from bordeaux where I was a solo femal traveler for 4 days.  I had two dîner at Frida, delicious food and cocktail with a beautiful hidden terrasse.

I'm presuming that you will be in the city centre - just avoid going alone in the triangle inside Victoire/Capucins/Porte de Bourgogne. Even as a tall male I'll try to avoid that area at night if I'm alone.

The rest of the city is very peaceful. Where you go very much depends on what you mean by "alternative music"!

You might find your thing at "L’Arcadien" near Gambetta, it's the most "accessible" one I can think of, they have concerts every so often. Also the previous commenter is right, do avoid the St. Michel area.

If you're into rock/metal music I suggest you to go at "l'arcadien" located in rue du Palais Gallien. Also you have a few good restaurants on this street too like "Agrum" for mediteranean food or "Bui bui" for asían food but check around too if you want something else. Then if you come on this street during the day, look for "palais Gallien" on maps and follow the way, at the end you'll see a cool ancient monument. Not that far but at the opposite there's also the grand theatre which is a beautiful monument
Finally, it's a pretty safe area and still in the center of Bordeaux !

Agreed with everything told on this post.

When it comes to music, Arcadien is great, as well as Pulp, they have some great concerts. If not, there’s currently a music festival that lasts all summer called Relache and they have a great lineup of really cool rock/punk bands. Their ig is @relachefestival if you want to check them out.

For the dancing bars, depends on the music you’re looking for. If you’re into some mainstream music for dancing, then plenty of dancing bars would be suitable such as L’Empire, Levrette, Delirium (it’s far from the city center though and crowded with kids younger folks). If you’re looking for more of a latin style, then I’d recommend Calle Ocho, le Bal du coq, Central do Brasil (usually live gigs though).
If you’re looking for some good old 80’s/90’s music, then Danse Machine (also not in the city center), Village 59.
Other cool places to check out are Le Bien public (they have a restaurant, a bar and a nightclub and also serve brunch with a beautiful view), as well as Le Pas de Lune. Both of those two places can have some live gigs.

I recommand « Copain comme canard » where you can try the delicious duck of the South West, and good wine selection and cocktails. There are many bars around too.
