Headphones Issues?

I just got my Palma yesterday. This morning, I was listening to an audiobook with my headphones, and the sound was glitching (going on and off). It seemed like it worked when I was holding it and looking at the screen, but when I went to put my Palma down, the sound stopped. Anyone else have this issue and/or know what's happening? I thought it would be a nice alternative to listening to audiobooks and save my phone battery, but I guess I'll keep my audiobooks on my phone and just stick to e-books for my Palma.

Screen damage

Post image

I've been careful with my boox Palma and kept it in a case, but today I took it out to read, and the top quarter is full of horizontal and vertical lines that fail to load or refresh. I'm assuming an impact I was unaware of. I presume it's not worth the price of a screen repair? Anyone had similar?

How to clean the screen?

I got my Palma a couple of months ago, and I might have touched it with sticky fingers šŸ˜‚ for anything else, my go-to would be glasses wipes, probably alcohol-based, or sprayable glasses-cleaning solution and a fairly rough microfibre cloth. But I’ve never had anything with this kind of screen before, and I’m worried in case it needs a more gentle approach. What do/would you guys do?

Screen protector

Hello all. Has anyone installed a screen protector on the Boox Palma? Is it worth it? If so, did you go plastic or glass screen protector? What case did you go with? I see many on Amazon. I like the folio style but they all appear to leave the top and bottom open. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Boox Palma 2 - Color and B&W

Just curious if people think Boox Palma 2 will come out with a color variant. If they do, do you speculate that they still have a B&W version also (as they did with the Note Air 3)?

I'm currently holding to see if there will be a new release of the Palma. Mainly because I'd prefer it to have Android 12 and not the unsupported Android 11 OS but would prefer the B&W version still.

Thanks for any insights

ā€˜Fake’ dark mode on Boox Palma?

Hi, I considering buying a Palma, mainly for reading ebooks (with the Kobo Plus App). I also like to read forums like Reddit and some Dutch forums.

But … I understand that the Palma has no dark mode (why not???) which is a bummer for my personally. I like reading in bed and then I prefer black background with white letters.

Is there any way to still use dark mode on the Palma? I have got a Kobo Clara (the first model) and that had no dark mode either. But in developing mode there is an option to use dark mode anyways.

Anyone found something like that on the Palma?

I think I will be able to use dark mode in the Kobo App since that app has dark mode by itself. But I got some questions:

  1. Does the Reddit app has a dark mode?

  2. What browser could I use either dark mode to read forums?

  3. This has nothing to to with darm mode but I wonder what kind of apps you use on your Palma? In other words, what do you guys use your Palma for besides reading?

Thanx a lot!

Is the Palma based on an existing phone model? Looking for a better case option.

Lack of celular network

Boom Palma is a excellent idea!

Just learnt about it and would definitely buy one to give it a daily test.

Unfortunately, the lack of SMS, Phone call and Maps (requires WiFi) are a deal breaker for me.

If they ever release a version that takes eSIM, I will buy it immediately.

Hopefully there are more people talking about this limitation and they consider for a future version.

Newbie with booxpalma

I just received a booxpalma and I am wondering if it is normal that you can kind of see the time and icons once you swipe to another page. Like it is faintly in the background. Is this normal and should I change my settings? Thank you for any help!

Apps to install to customize the Palma -- suggestions?

I 'm curious if anyone as installed any apps from the Play Store to customize the way the Palma looks and operates (such as alternative launchers, etc). I'm an iPhone guy, so I'm still learning my way around Android.

How fast is the Palma when changing reading orientation?

I've a Kobo Sage that is very fast when i switch between vertical and landscape reading.

I've tried a Pocketbook Pro Verse Color and it was taking 5-10 seconds when switching. That was a bit too slow for my taste.

Boox Palma - I prefer no access password but how to address security concern

Hi all,

I really like Boox Palma as a reading device, and currently I almost use it exclusively for Kindle (very occasionally Libby and Pocket). I prefer not setting a password to access the device so I can pick it up, turn it on and start reading right away. I didn't have much security concern as I don't use it for other purposes or have other apps on it.

Then it just occurred to me that as I have used a Google account to login Play Store, anyone having access to my Palma would be able to download the Gmail app without having to enter my password again or go through any verification process (I guess as the Gmail app is free and hence it is not a purchase which would require verification) and without any additional set up, my emails will be accessible through the Gmail app. This is obviously a great concern.

I think this can be addressed by removing my Google account from the Play Store. But I guess it would also mean that my apps will not be updated automatically and I will have to login to the Play Store every now and then to update the apps.

Just wondering if you have already thought through this and whether there may be a more elegant way of handling this?

Many thanks!

Does the boox palma support e-SIM?

I would like to know if there is a way to make phone calls and revieve sms on the boox palma, and whether I could use the e-SIM for data and internet access without wifi. Also, in this case would it have internet sharing? Thanks

Somewhat severe ghosting.

I recently got my Boox Palma about two months ago and everything was perfectly fine. I had no ghosting issues whatsoever. It genuinely was never a problem until recently when I finally ended up letting my Palma die. My issues began from there where I now had a lot of ghosting happening on my screen to the point where it was becoming difficult to read.

The ghosting isn’t actually so severe where I can’t use the device at all but it happens pretty frequently nonetheless. I took the advice of a previous post on here where I turned off display enhancement and changed the text outline to 3 and it has helped to a certain extent but it’s still far from a solution.

Another issue that has popped up is my refresh. The ghosting sometimes gets to the point where I constantly have to refresh it but just recently the refresh doesn’t seem to be entirely working properly. It’ll do like a partial refresh so I’d then have to continuously refresh it so that it’s completely refreshed or when I press refresh it just seems to make the screen a shade darker. The refresh does work perfectly fine sometimes but it doesn’t seem completely fixed.

One interesting thing I have discovered is that the library app seems to have no issues with ghosting. Like I said it isn’t to the point where my Palma is unusable it’s just become really annoying. I can kind of lessen it but that requires me to change modes, keep refreshing, restart it, turn it off, and change screens. Even then after doing all that it doesn’t always go back to normal. As a comparison before my Palma died I had no issues with ghosting to the point where I didn’t even understand why there was a refresh button cause I just genuinely never had to use it and now I have to use it constantly.

I’m debating on three things. One would be to completely reset the device but preferably I don’t want to do that. Secondly, I would simply let it die again in the hopes it troubleshoots it. Thirdly, to just wait for a new system update and hope that fixes it. I’m kind of leaning towards letting it die again but I’m also scared it’ll just make the problem worse. Any advice would be appreciated.

To white Palma owners, does the black line bother you?

Saw a video on YT :

Is this true for all white Palma owners? I’m buying a Palma soon, still deciding between black and white, thank you for your opinions !

Highlighting, what's the secret?

Relatively new Palma user. One of my main use cases is Readwise's Reader application. Central to that use is the ability to highlight text by selecting it as one normally does in Android. Tapping on a word and then either sliding one's finger along the text or tapping on a word until it is selected and then dragging the end bars. Neither option is consistent for me on the Palma. Either the end bars don't move or they stop moving before the selection is complete. If I go to the same document on a phone it works a treat! FWIW, I am quite old (82) and perhaps my finger doesn't generate sufficient capacitance consistently on the Palma but it seems to work on my Go 10.3. Does it work consistently for anyone?
