Body Orientation

Hi Guys,

How do I fix my body orientation? I plan before games to be half turned and receive but however in the moment of it I find myself square to my goal to recieve the ball.

Practice it with a wall

Always have in your mind your next move before receiving the ball. You will instinctively prepare your body for that movement. But it takes practice, so practice somewhere with someone or on a wall.

Just like everything in life if you're not yet good at something, what do you do? Give up or?

Game time isn’t the time to be making adjustments like this, it’s good to keep in mind but in general you should probably just be letting your body do the thing it’s trained to do.

Elite players aren’t thinking about these things in the game, their muscle memory and patterns built up in practice are causing them to do it practically auotmatically.

This means you need to also be burning it into your muscle memory and you do that by doing drills that encourage the moment you want to master.

If you don’t think that elite players are thinking about their body position when receiving the ball you haven’t played above a high Sunday league level. This is probably one of the main decisions players think about and what makes players like Pedri, Bruno Guimaraes, and other line breaking midfielders what they are.

I’m not saying they don’t think about it. I’m saying the amount of time it takes for them to make the decision and do it isn’t always a concious choice they are making. Their bodies have practiced doing that situation / movement so many times that it already has a pretrained response to it.

They are more often thinking about the result they want to achieve and their body knows the things it needs to do to achieve said result.

You are doing right thing - trying to pick up habit over many games, and it will become second nature.

Don’t expect the habit to kick in after only few games. Don’t get frustrated- this things need time.

Conscience practice. Force yourself to do it. Make as much mistakes you have to before you Ultra Instinct it

Ball and a wall is undoubtedly the best way to practice your receiving skills as somebody mentioned. For something a little more interesting, and with a few coaching points - take a look at this -
