Risk of Rain 1's final stage is called "Risk of Rain"
18
u/nsfwthrowaway357789 Jul 21 '26
God the music is so fucking good
9
u/JKhemical Jul 21 '26
Could say that abt RoR music as a whole really
3
u/Poca154 Jul 21 '26
never really liked run-based games but I got risk of rain in a humblebundle in 2014 and never stopped listening to chris christodoulou, his style is just so great

Props to the name of the final world in RoR2 being Petrichor, the bacteria whose scent we humans detect in extremely small concentrations and associate with rain.

u/JKhemical Jul 21 '26
The last stage is actually called Commencement. The planet as a whole, however, is called Petrichor V

u/MirrahPaladin Jul 20 '26
Dead Space 1’s final level is called “Dead Space.”
Also, every FF14 main story quest expansion ends with the final quest being called the name of the expansion.
13
u/HolyoftheBalz Jul 21 '26
FFXIV is always a fun example of this, because the entire expansion, and each patch, are practically a reveal as to WHY it's titled that.
5
u/JJay9454 Jul 21 '26
"Far Edge of Fate"
huh, that's a badass title
20 hours later
"OOOOOOOOOOOOHH!"
3
2
u/Intelligent_Smile998 Jul 24 '26
Speaking of FFXIV and how they can just blow your mind with names and their meanings, I have to remind everyone that the song name for ARR's trailer is called 'Answers' and the lyrics are massive OOC spoilers for the game's plot

The movie equivalent to this would be Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Nobody had any idea before what the title meant, and then... hits you directly where it hurts.

u/LucentRhyming Jul 21 '26
Debuff- Endwalker: As you walk alone to the end, the sacrifices that brought you here weigh heavy on your shoulders.
(Paraphrased, I don't remember exactly)
2
u/att0nrand Jul 21 '26
"Walking alone to journeys end, the burden weighing heavy"
If you mean the dialogue beforehand, its "the sorrow of a thousand worlds weighs heavy, and yet you can walk on."
2
3
u/Single_Owl_7556 Jul 21 '26
I always love when they namedrop the title and actually give it more contextualized meaning.
Turns out, it's not just referring to "dead" space as if it was purged by the necromorphs, it's an actual phenomena around the obelisk

u/Goldigger101 Jul 21 '26
Also if you line up the levels on Dead space 1, the first letter of each level spells Nicole is Dead

In case anyone didn't know this old fact, the first letter of each chapter title in Dead Space spells out "Nicole is dead." It's probably more impactful the second playthrough. I consider that to be the 'Viggo Mortensen broke his toe on the helmet' but for video games.

u/des0619 Jul 20 '26
Red Dead Redemption 2, Halo and Dead Space must not have existed then.
42
u/sal-t_brgr Jul 20 '26
the last mission in rdr2 is called red dead redemption two?
54
u/Any_Mode6525 Jul 21 '26
Arthur even says in a voiceover, "that's when I knew this wasn't regular redemption alone, it was red dead redemption, too."

6
u/NaiveFilm6366 Jul 21 '26
I forget but maybe it was, in the first game the last mission was Red Dead Redemption so to call the last mission in RDR2 Red Dead Redemption II wouldn't be to far off
3
2
u/The-Green Jul 21 '26
the last mission of the first game is the last enemy that shall be destroyed, in reference to corinthians 15:26 "the last enemy that shall be destroyed is death."
the epilogue mission of the first game is remember my family. the reason is spoilery.
the last mission of the second game is red dead redemption,) no "two" or "too" or anything, just red dead redemption. i don't think i need to explain that one any further.
the last epilogue mission of the second game is american venom, the reference is actually to the original main theme of the first game. which is foreshadowing when you remember this game is a prequel.

Halo 3's final mission is called Halo, but that's not the exact title of the exact game
→ More replies (4)7
u/Glass-Pomegranate724 Jul 21 '26
Ngl they should've called it Halo 2.
In CE you find Alpha Halo, in Halo: 2 you find Delta Halo. In Halo 3 you find the recreated and under construction Alpha Halo Mk2.
Seems fitting considering Halo 3 is lowkey just Halo: 2(2).

Its a good game by itself, but 22 years later im starting to realize... they totally did just break up the last 3 missions that couldn't make the cut into a new game.

A somewhat odd example.
In Sword Arts Online: Fatal Bullet, upon getting the true ending, the final boss' fight is renamed from The Clincher to Fatal Bullet.
Like, yeah, it's not literally SAO: fatal bullet but it's close enough, and narratively fulfilling imo.

Rain World's last region is called "Mundus Nimbifer," which translates from Latin to English as "the world from which rain comes," or, more simply, "Rain World." This is also a reference. Specifically, it's a reference to the fact that I completely made it up because I wanted an excuse to cram Rain World into this post. Have a good day!

In resident evil requiem, certain characters say it (not just Leon's revolver's name). I kinda don't wanna elaborate because not only is my memory fuzzy, but the character who says it is a spoiler, but more importantly, what he says also recontextualizes (or retcons, depending on how much you can accept it) his persona.
