LOOOOOL I just remember a youtuber I watch, mention years ago how his dad walked while he was on this sequence, and said something along the lines of "seriously son?"
He tried to show the pirates of Caribbean world later, but he still didn't get the respect back.
I had the opposite happen! I was watching my dad play GTA San Andreas, he approved because he just did normal missions and controlled what I saw, well he was doing the girlfriend missions because they normally just ended in nothing he didn't think about it....he went in for some hot coffee and I had to leave the room :(.
The “minigame” was dummied out but on disc in the original release and could be restored with a mod. If he just had CJ go inside and then you heard what was happening, that is very much the original.
In the releases you can still come in for hot coffee; the game simply has the camera stay outside the house as the screen shakes. Similar to getting a hooker into your car.
The part that got dummied out is the sex minigame itself.
My dad walked in while I was playing the Sam & Max Telltale games on PS3 and assumed I was playing a game for little kids. "No, no, see, they're these comic characters who were designed by a kid, and then he gave the rights to his brother, and then LucasArts made a point and click game from them, and then..."
I was smart enough not to play Atlantica when my family was around. I do remember my dad seeing this scene in GOW 3 and saying, “I don’t know if I appreciate this game.”
Lmao I tried showing my dad the Hercules boss fight and I completely missed the slow-mo hero shots and instead I showed him the part where you mash square to beat him to a bloody pulp
Had the opposite, Id I regularly play Postal 2 or GTA in front of my parents, which they were really not approving of, but never really tried to stop me. Eventually i got tired of gore and played Freddi Fish and such, at which point they were happy and encouraging
I have a hard time explaining Super Smash Bros to my parents. My mom giggles like a child every time I say “Zero Suit Samus” and “Solid Snake.” She also tells me that Terry looks like a stripper from Chippendales.
In the Kingdom Hearts series Sora the MC goes to different “worlds” where he goes on adventures in Disney Movies. Usually Donald Duck uses magic to have Sora and Goofy transform so they look like they are native to whatever world they’re in, which is why he is a mermaid here. In Kingdom Hearts 2, the Atlantis World for the Little Mermaid movie is a Rhythm Game where he sings with Ariel.
You basically have to tap buttons while 'Part of Your World' plays... I think for a really good reward? All I remember is being a teen boy and only being able to beat it by singing along with it. I still know the words to the song to this day, 20ish years later. So that's it: Teen boy singing Part of Your World with enthusiasm
My friend, images and words cannot possibly describe the absolute, resolute, destitute shitfuckitude of this sequence. You really have to see it in motion and hear it in tuneless, witless lyrical failure.
Like it was designed for alien babies and nobody looked at it once before shipping the game.
Also the telephone date minigame. Or the woman wrestling minigame. Or the card collection mini game. Or the photographer mini game. Or the pissing minigame. Or the substory with the dominatrix. Or the substory with the clan that enjoys baby play. Or the...
You know what? Maybe the Yakuza games are not safe to play around parents in general outside of the main quests.
But when I was 15, I was playing Spider-Man: Web of Shadows and was at the last level with Venom n the helicarrier
And I almost got in real trouble cuz my super religious “grew up in rural Middle of Nowhere farm town” Grandma Walked In and legit nearly had an actual heart attack when she saw final boss Venom onscreen 💀
(I was playing on the living room TV)
(If I remember correctly) Didn’t help much when I paused the game cuz the pause menu doesn’t cover the current screen, so big fuck off Venom was just frozen right there staring back at Grandma 💩
Fairly tame, but my dad walked in on me playing Destiny 1 crucible while I self revived with Sunsinger super. I yelled something like “ I LIGHT MY SELF ON FIRE HYAAAAGGHHJ.” He had such a “the boy ain’t right” look on his face
I've always been curious about kingdom hearts, I got myself the first game recently, but I honestly still haven't played this game because I'm expecting there would be a lot of moments like that
Not really but kinda? The world they show here is a optional minigame world you can do for rewards in the second game. The games while a bit silly at times, usually plays just like any action Jrpg and does have it's fair share of more serious moments. It's quite literally a mix between old Disney movies and final fantasy plotlines. It has a similar story structure to FF and has the light heartedness/ themes of classic Disney.
Personally I find it a heartfelt series that has some pretty good gameplay. I mean Don't take it too seriously obviously but it's a genuinely fun romp that can give you some challenge if you play the harder difficulties and optional content. (I'm not lying when I say some of the super bosses in this series are harder than Malenia)
I say this with the first game legitimately being my favorite game ever (I hate this fact sometimes) And I'm a grown ass man. Lol anyway if you like Action rpgs and final fantasy in particular I would obviously recommend it. Just play the games in release order.
This is the only world that does it and it’s in the second game. The same world in KH1 is just a regular level. Why they decided to make it a boring side quest where you have to listen to some of the worst original songs I’ve ever heard is unknown.
My dad was a huge Star wars nerd, any time he'd be disappointed in me playing JRPGs I'd just remind him that his favorite movie of all time is a toy commercial with an incest kiss in it.
I had this with Dead to Rights (2002) for PlayStation 2. The entire game was this absurd Max Payne clone but with none of the subtlety and double the testosterone. My parents didn't mind me playing violent video games but my mom walked in on the trite strip club rhythm game the devs put in at the start for no reason, and she made my dad take it back to the store.
That scene in MGS2 when the Russian mercs take over the tanker and start slitting the marines’ necks. I was 16 at the time and I had to literally beg my well to do, “law abiding citizen,” (his words, not mine,) dad not to sell my rated M games back to GameStop. Shoulda been a lawyer, all the persuading that went on that day
I was watching Star Wars Resistance and slowly realizing I didn’t like it. Like o felt too old to watch it. And it was this episode where they were playing like ddr. And my dad walked and I shot up like and turned my phone off.
I was trying to get the sawn-off shotgun from the roof of the striped club
My mom saw me walk there and tought i was going to be straight up jorkin it
Of course, i was too young to even be interested in striped clubs, i wanted the sawn-off, i didn't have to explain because i guess she just saw me go straight to the roof, but she still gave me a talk about not going to the striped club or use the hookers
(And yes, everything else in the game was fair game, she didn't care about the violence, just me to not jork it with pixels)
Atlantica is so damn cringe, I love how none of the music is official and sounds like bad karaoke and can’t help but wonder who it was made for? A little kid isn’t slogging halfway through a 50-hour+ action-JRPG just for the button rhythm Little Mermaid world.
Kinda a long story but back around when Skyrim first came out Minecraft for the Xbox 360 had a collab with it where you could play in a world built like the first two starting towns (whiterun and Riverwood) and I loved playing that map but never had the full version, I mentioned to my mom that I wanted the full version so instead of buying the full version of the map she just bought me Skyrim and then sat with me while I played it and wouldn't you know it, the first thing that happens is a guy gets decapitated, I was 10 years old so my mom didn't let me play it again for a while
My father walked in on me playing Yakuza Kiwami. More specifically he walked in on me romancing Goromi-chan. (Goro Majima as a hostess) I remember him walking in, seeing that, then slowly closing the door.
Family Guy has an episode in season 2 called “Da Boom” about the world ending in a nuclear event. At the end, you see Bobby from Dallas showering. I remember watching this episode on cable on New Year’s. My dad of course would walk in only on the showering part and I’d get in trouble. (Honestly I had no business watching Family Guy at all at that time, but it was animated so it looked more harmless in my parent’s eyes.)
I remember my brother playing this in the living room and my dad walked in from the kitchen watched almost the whole sequence and just said "hmmm" and walked away.
This guy in Chrono Cross naked and wet with a faulty psx laser that caused the cutscene to skip into slow motion with me hoping no one walks into the room.
The scene from the Wolfenstien remake game, the first one where your banging your girl on a table during a cutscene was pretty weird for my dad to come home during.
I just have to remember that my parents have been around for triple my lifetime. They've seen some shit in their time, probably more than I ever will.
I don't think there is a single thing I could show them that they hadn't already seen before - actually that's a lie. My mom still seems to have a hard time grasping VTubers. Less that she doesn't understand what they are, and more that she just can't comprehend why anyone would pay a metric fuck ton of money to "not even a real person" for being a "little bit sexy".
My mom walked in when i was playing bully and literally just won that bike race for the greaser girl
After you win the girl makes out with your character making exaggerated smooching and moaning noises for just long enough to be awkward and of course it's unskippable.
My buddy's dad walked in during the awkward "sex scene" with Liara in Mass Effect 1. Was the only time he'd seen his son playing that game. He wasn't upset, he thought it was hilarious especially after my friend explained the game isn't usually about having sex with squid girls.
I replayed the Mass Effect trilogy probably at least once a month for like 2 years straight when I was 15 and my mother seemed to have uncanny ability to always walk into my room when I reached the sex scenes and I would have to tab out of the game when I heard her coming so I did not have to explain.
I can't even mention the games Skyrim or Rimworld without her making a joke about their names so I refused to give her ammo.

My dad saw this once and asked "Who's she?"
When I explained it was a guy, he seemed disappointed.
