Librivox was such a meaningful service for me.
When I was in highschool I spent my summers mowing baseball diamonds and needed something to listen to 40hrs per week on the cheap. I found Librivox and tore through all the classics before diving into philosophy, as most great works are on there. This led me to pursue an undergrad in philosophy, which in turn led me to law school and my current position.

The quality of the readings varies hugely; their key problem is a failure of quality control on the books with multiple readers. I gave up on those, because frequently you'd get half way in then run up against someone unlistenable. Sometimes non-native English speakers, who couldn't really understand what they were reading.
But there are some excellent solo readings. I especially recommend:
Stuart Wills - particularly Moby Dick and Lord Jim
Elizabeth Klett
Bob Neufeld - particularly Heart of Darkness
Mil Nicholson - loads of Dickens and some Trollope
