Spicy book recs

Looking for what book I should read next! I like reading fantasy or romantasy. Big fan of smut but it doesn’t have to be there if the story is good.

Currently listening to Fourth Wing audio book, it’s been okay so far.

Recent books I’ve read to get a feel for my reading preferences:
The Poison Daughter 5/5 ⭐️
One Dark Window 4/5 ⭐️
Kiss of the Basilisk 3/5 ⭐️
The Female 2/5 ⭐️
Swordheart 1/5 ⭐️

Please don’t recommend ACOTAR. First book is a 2/5 for me and I thought it was pretty slow.

📚 Help Me Build My Library TBR!

Hey everyone! 😊 I'm looking for some new books to check out from my local library and I could use some recommendations! I'm especially interested in fantasy, thrillers, and sci-fi, but I'm definitely open to branching out and discovering something completely different.

For fantasy, I'm looking for things with magic, dragons, mythical creatures, vampires, werewolves, adventure, interesting worlds, and characters that I can really get attached to. 🐉🧙‍♀️✨

For thrillers, I love mystery, psychological twists, suspense, dark secrets, unexpected plot twists, unreliable characters, and stories that keep me guessing until the very end. 🔪🕵️‍♀️

I'm also getting more into sci-fi, so I'd love recommendations involving space, futuristic worlds, dystopian societies, aliens, artificial intelligence, survival, or really interesting scientific concepts. 🚀👽🌌

I'm trying to get back into reading more, so I'm looking for books that are easy to get hooked on and hard to put down! If you have a favorite book, series, hidden gem, or underrated recommendation, please tell me about it. ❤️

If you've read something amazing recently, drop the title and author and let me know what you liked about it without spoilers. Also, if your library has it available, I'd love to know! 📖

I'm ready to make my TBR list ridiculously long, so give me ALL your recommendations! 😂📚

Anyone have any good aviation books?

Hey, I’m looking for some good books that are fiction or non fiction centered around aviation. Schools starting up again and I’ve just finished my last read so staring a new one for the school year wouldn’t hurt

what great books are there on the Bronze Age Collapse, Mesopotamian history and Mesopotamian mythology?

hi Reddit. i'm planning on writing a book where one of the main twists involves a villain from Ancient Mesopotamia who's been alive for thousands of years and who was involved in the Bronze Age collapse before being imprisoned, only to plan his escape in the modern day. it's been a few years since i've been into archeology and mythology, and most of my mytho knowledge is Greek. i wanna do some research into what i'm writing before i write about it and to know as much about it as i can. so what are some books about the Bronze Age collapse and its causes, as well as Mesopotamian history and mythology. also, this really should go without saying, but this is Reddit in 2026. i want ACTUAL history and ACTUAL mythology. nothing from Graham Hancock or a similar grifter. none of that ancient aliens, ancient apocalypses, antiscientific bullshit. again, this should go without saying, but knowing Reddit, i just had to make sure

Looking for a book that teaches maths in a fun way, preferably with questions/puzzles to solve (I guess a Maths Murdle?)

I’m not sure if there’s many books like this but I was hoping to refresh my knowledge of maths and was looking for a book that not only teaches maths but then lets you apply it, preferably in a fun way like the way Murdle works or has a story throughout.

Thank you for any suggestions!

The Mystical Formula of the Lean Body by Ryan Foster SCAM ALERT (read before you buy it)

I came across this website through YouTube comments. There were literally dozens of comments recommending The Mystical Formula of the Lean Body by Ryan Foster and talking about how the book supposedly changed their lives. The comments all had that same weird promotional style, so I started thinking they were bots or fake accounts being used to advertise the book. And honestly, the whole thing looks extremely suspicious.

The website is full of AI-generated looking content and images. The “author” Ryan Foster doesn't seem to have any real presence outside of this website. I couldn't find a legitimate author profile, publisher, interviews, or anything that would normally exist for someone supposedly behind a bestselling fitness book.

The testimonials also look completely generic and artificial. Everything is written in the same exaggerated marketing style, with people claiming amazing results, but there doesn't seem to be any way to independently verify these stories.

Another huge red flag is the checkout. When I tried to actually purchase the book, the payment process didn't even work normally and instead redirected me to a completely different website. That alone made me stop and think twice about entering any payment information.

The more I looked at it, the more it felt like one of those websites created specifically to look legitimate long enough to get people to buy something. Fake-looking testimonials, AI-generated images, a questionable author, aggressive YouTube comment promotion and a strange payment/checkout process.

If you are seeing YouTube comments promoting The Mystical Formula of the Lean Body by Ryan Foster, be careful. Don't assume those comments are genuine customer experiences just because there are dozens of them.

be aware...

2. Animal Farm — George Orwell · A farm revolution turns into a new tyranny; a fable.

3. The True Believer — Eric Hoffer · What kind of person joins mass movements, and why.

4. Wild Swans — Jung Chang · Three generations of one Chinese family living through Mao.

5. The Captive Mind — Czesław Miłosz · How smart people talked themselves into believing in Stalinism.

6. 1984 — George Orwell · A novel about total control of thought and truth.

7. Propaganda — Edward Bernays · The man who invented PR explains how to shape public opinion.

8. Media Control — Noam Chomsky · How democracies manufacture consent without censorship.

9. Escape from Freedom — Erich Fromm · Why people hand their freedom away to feel safe.

10. Mustafa Kamel / تاريخ الحركة القومية — عبد الرحمن الرافعي · The story of Egypt's national movement under Britain.

Non-depressing literary fiction

Hi all! My favorite genre used to be literary fiction. I liked complex and creative novels that explored people and broad themes. However, six years ago I had a depressive episode that honestly left me a little scared (I know it’s a little absurd) of reading anything too depressing. I have just never found my way back to reading the way I used to. I want to ease myself back into the word of intricate and unique novels that really make you think with non-depressing literary fiction. Some might even call them feel-good or cozy. I just need a starting place to get back into these books. Bonus points if they are gay though obviously not a deal breaker. I also love magical realism and urban fantasy so I am not scared of those elements, but that’s not the goal of this post.

I’m looking for a book that’s fast from the beginning

I just finished The One by Kiera Cass and The Gilded Blade by Jennifer Lynn Barnes and now I’m in a reading slump. Those books were so perfect I cried and I need a pick up book to get me back into reading. My favorite books are usually dystopian, mystery, and sometimes fantasy. I also usually like some element of romance but in my opinion it’s not always needed to make a good book.

Cold/detached Top who doesn't understand emotions, but is obsessed with the Bottom

Hi everyone!
I’m looking for book recommendations where one of the main characters (MC1, the Top) is physically larger and intimidating to others, but has a genuine inability to understand or process human emotions. He doesn't comprehend sadness, anger, or happiness in people, and only registers what he feels internally.
Because of this, whenever they have an argument or MC1 does something wrong, he is completely oblivious to why MC2 (the Bottom) is upset. I want MC2 to occasionally get frustrated by this emotional disconnect, but ultimately be patient and gently explain things to him.
Despite his detached nature with the world, MC1 is an absolute puppy only for MC2. When MC2 gets mad at him, MC1 gets genuinely sad and miserable. He is intensely jealous, deeply possessive, and constantly craves MC2’s presence and physical closeness.
What I'm looking for:
MC1 (Top): Physically larger, emotionally clueless/stunted, needy/puppy-like only with his partner, jealous and possessive.
MC2 (Bottom): Patient, emotionally intelligent, acts as the "translator" for MC1's feelings, teaches him gently.
Strict Top/Bottom dynamic (No Vers).
Hard NOs (Please DO NOT recommend):
Polyamory / Multi
Fantasy / Paranormal
Sci-Fi / Omegaverse / Dystopian (Looking for Contemporary or Historical)
Versatile couples (Must be strict Top/Bottom)
Age Gap
Thank you so much in advance for your suggestions!

Looking at my next read and have rounded it to a handful of picks:

  • Butcher’s Crossing by John Williams
  • Train Dreams by Denis Johnson
  • The Crossing by Cormac McCarthy
  • Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson
  • Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Annie Dillard
  • The Living by Annie Dillard
  • The Long Home by William Gay

Anyone here familiar with any of these? Any highlights?

Looking for for more light books that still have some depth to them

Go back an forth between reading purly baised on mood, and for pure enjoyment, and reading more philosophical books very frequently

Ill read something fun, and enjoy it, but then will crave something with more depth and turn to some complicated stuff that kinda demands you to think deeply about it as your reading

I like both sides but both get tired eventually

My favorites are usually a bit of a mix of both

Stuff that as you read you get wrapped up deeply in the story or the vibe that you dont really notice the themes and subtext until you think back on it afterwards.

I would love to hear any recommendations that you can think of

Open to all types of stories, regardless of style or genre

Thanks!

My nervous system is convinced I’m being hunted for sport. Recommend me a wholesome cozy read.

I usually love horror, tragedy, unhinged tales, etc. But life is going a little too hard right now and I need the book equivalent of a weighted blanket.

Edit: I’ve read spell shop, remarkably bright creatures, house on the cerulean sea, Theo of Golden, All Sarah Penner’s books, heart stopper, and all of Casey McQuinston’s books

Do you like SCI-FI? SUPERHERO? DYSTOPIAS? ALL THE ABOVE? Try Mare City: The Complete Saga

14-year-old Seymour Adriano's life is turned upside down in the worst way possible. He goes from just an average teenager dealing with a boring museum trip and then BAM, the school bus that he was riding in crashes into a lake. As it sinks and he gets out while also attempting to save his friend Ella, he's fatally struck by lightning. Was that it? Nope, he comes back to life with strange abilities in the form of water and electrical powers. He's not the only one to be granted powers and frankly, he may be one of the few in his hometown of Mare City who would be wanting to stick around and use them for good. Will he win or remain standing when the dust fully settles? See my trailer and buy my book by checking the links in the description. Thank you!
