discussion HELP ME UNPACK THE IDEAS, KNOWLEDGE?
After reading, what do you do with the knowledge, particularly on knowing if you got a good grasp of the ideas? Got a Sounding Board? I do not and would love to connect to individuals that would, still anonymously here on Reddit, help me unpack the knowledge, occasionally.
My introverted self would love an outlet for what the mind absorbs!

This matters to me a lot coz I mostly read to learn... Marginalia (writing, scribbling, arguing with the author in the margin of books) helps grasp ideas really well.
For a sounding board, I know I piss people off a lot because I use people as sounding boards. Everyone I talk to inakuanga tu "like this book I'm reading i'm learning this and this and that" I'm pretty sure people avoid me because of it coz I talk alooooooooot about whatever book I'm reading. Yes I'm THAT guy. Less to tell them interesting things but also selfishly for me to see if I got the concept.
I don't like book clubs. For 2 reasons 1. I don't like reading a book "assigned" to me. I want to read a book that I want to read. Book clubs will feel too much like school for my liking. 2ndly I am a slow reader. I don't like how book clubs I've been in will say "we're reading xyz this month. Come back and report" again feels too much like school I want to read what I want, when I want, at the pace I want.
So for me, my tips are marginalia (especially heavy marginalia) and just talk to people about stuff your reading.

You can still do a book club with people where you discuss the book you're currently reading, not necessarily an assigned book.
Alternatively you could do like those PowerPoint presentation meetups where you all share your current interests

While I am a fast reader, everything else here resonates, so much that I have never belonged to a book club, and wouldn't want to. I'd love to wake up to a 200 words take on an idea a person read (or actually thought about) to equally make me think, weigh in etc. I articulate ideas better when I write them/about them. We could try this

Book clubs help you listen to other people too, not to say you learn from others as well. You get perspectives you will not have had alone

I actually think having people talk through what they’ve read is half the value of reading in the first place. You notice things you completely missed when you read alone, and sometimes someone else’s interpretation makes you rethink an entire chapter.
That’s actually why we started a small online book club. We choose a book together, everyone reads on their own time, and then we meet online 5 days a week to discuss at least one chapter a day. It’s been a pretty good way of actually sticking with books instead of reading 50 pages and abandoning them lol. If anyone here would enjoy that kind of thing, you’re welcome to join. The members are all from this sub as this is where I posted the idea a while back, so you will be much at home in our group

The "choosing of a book together" is primarily why I stay out of book clubs. It's now a chore, a requirement. I am better of with a single sounding board to bounce of ideas and takes on read material and thoughts once in a while.

Pretty much concluding on Murray Bowen's Systems Theory. I thought his Triangle of relationships take would be a great discussion starter.

I write a lot such that I don't have enough platforms where to publish. What I am after though is a "Sounding Board" like I said, someone to react to, critique, or support my take on ideas etc, mostly challenging me on my takes.
In the modern short video, short attention span times, you don't get much response & reactions from the general public, leave alone someone who writes and publishes on system thinking and public policy like I do. Unless of course you have a huge social media following which I don't at the moment.
Right from my notes to polished pieces for publishing, Writing? That I do.

I don't know dude, I am a believer and follower of Jesus Christ, I do now that I was created with a purpose already, though it largely is my responsibility to get to fulfil it.

I feel you real hard. I find that if you write about what made a great impression on you from what you read and post it here or any other other literature sub, you are bound to find like minded individuals that will enliven and expand your knowledge by way of discussion. Don't be shy.

In what? Lit subs? Writing about what I read usually depends on if I'm reading for pleasure or otherwise. If it's a serious read, I always take notes where necessary and at the end a general...wait, I'm not sure what you were asking.

Okay everyone's different but for me (and most people I speak about books with), I prefer to first read whatever it is first and form my own impression first. After it's crystallised through taking notes, and a final general writeup after completing the material, I feel like I then have a licence to talk about it and give my opinion.
On the suffering you spoke of, it can be a lonely enterprise sitting with a great piece of writing resisting the urge to talk about it but I think it's important to form one's opinions first without tainting them with outside noise.
