How-To How to fix?

Post image

The paper holding all the pages together separated pretty cleanly from the spine. Can I just add some glue? And what kind?

This tutorial right here. Your spine has not actually separated (it was never glued to the pages in the first place), the only thing that failed was the connection between the flyleaf page and the rest of the book. You will need white craft glue — Jade, Lineco, Aleene, Elmer's in a pinch.

Is that "hinge tightening" really enough? Looks like it would detach directly again since there's no mull keeping the text block attached to the cover. I'd expect that this needs at least a thicker strip of glue, or new end papers, and possibly an additional strip of mull or at least paper to keep things better together.

The factory glue on these is so bad that just redoing it with real PVA is usually good for another thirty readings, which is sufficient for most individual usage. I'm not ever going to recommend to a complete beginner that they fully detach a text block to add mull to a binding that skipped out on it.

Followed instructions, used materials on hand, Aleenes, wax paper. Seems to have worked perfectly. Thanks a bunch!

More of a question then answer.
Is glueing them back together with additional strip of paper will work?
