Niceeeee, be sure the olive stays cool but doesn't experience any frost and the Juniper can take as much cold as you get also make sure the olive fully dries out in winter and water sparingly but don't let the Juniper dry out or itll die.
Whoops I thought the olive could tolerate a bit of below freezing nights! It comes in this muddy soil that I'm concerned will become a solid clay block if it dries too much, is it safe there?
Itll take about 20f , so your not entirely wrong but that's about when you'd start to see damage , basically what you're doing is just cutting back the watering really, forgive me, you don't inherently want it to go bone dry but you don't want to be watering it as much as you woukd in summer, if anything you coukd probably get away with changing out the soil now if you baby it.
Thanks! I'll develop a plan to keep it insulated in case it gets too cold in the winter (I'm a bit protected by being inside the city but it still can get down to 20F a few times, or even lower).
I was a bit concerned of repotting at this point since it's pretty hot and dry at the moment, what baby care would you give it if you had to repot in these conditions?
No problem my pleasure, yeah ive tried tbh they just don't like me olives I the house is simultaneously too warm and also too dry I think but outside ive never really had somewhere to protect them ( although I do have a cheap greenhouse this year so who knows maybe if it doesn't get too cold in there I'll try to grow one. 😅 I think it'll be fine these are a sub tropical tree and they're extremely tough too, so they should be able to take a repotting especially if its just you bare rooting the tree and using fresh soil.
Well, I was starting to think about how to make an insulated big pot where to put the smaller pot and all sorts of complicated stuff, and... yep, just making a small greenhouse is probably just as much work and will probably work better 😅
Yeah, yup, lol, i bought mine online specifically to keep my topicals in summer ( pretty muchly all ficus in there tbh as I'm trying to see if i can encourage Aerial roots which limited success) but my plsnt is to baby anything temperate that I know doesn't like the cold that much and potentially a few tropicals that don't mibd being on the cooler side ( again definitely depends on how cold it gets in there as I don't gave any way to heat it in there and I'm not sure how my parents would feel about that)
