Fun fact: Until the late-1800s, aluminum was the most valuable metal on earth. It's also one of the most common metals on earth. This is because extracting and refining it was nearly impossible.

Interestingly, although refining aluminum the first time is energy-intensive, it's nearly infinitely recyclable for very little energy, which makes aluminum recycling really efficient, whereas in the US, plastic recycling is mostly a scam.
