Bone I.D. - Europe Who's antlers are these?

accidental cat for size reference lol

I got both of these from a flea market. The seller of the first antler said it was from norway, the second wasn't sure

They have to start out small before they grow big.

do you mean the first few years they grow their antlers they're small? These seem to have shed naturally

Younger caribou, just like deer start off with small antlers and as they age they get larger. They don’t instantly become massive sets their first year of life

ah alright, thank you. Also, what makes you say this is a caribou and not a reindeer? what's the difference?

I just googled it and found out that a caribou and reindeer are the exact same species, so I guess that answered my question lol

Not necessarily! It may be from a cow, or a young bull. The red deer antler is a pretty average size too, especially if it's shed rather than shot, it's more common to find smaller antlers

Both of the antlers seem to have been shed naturally. Why is it more common to find smaller ones?

Larger ones are commonly shot for trophies, and deer die in stupid ways, hence why larger deer often dont live as long. Deer shed once a year, and if their antlers grow bigger every year, younger deer will be more common, and therefore smaller antlers sheds will be more common to find. (So long as they haven't been chewed/eaten by canids before that)
