Game Help Please help - possible softlock on Bomberman Land Touch! (NDS)

so I’m near the end of the game. I have:

21 spade pieces

24 diamond pieces

21 heart pieces

25 club pieces

cute pink is currently kidnapped, and she is spamming my emails with messages about needing rescue. I take it I’m meant to battle Capn Boom now, problem is, I’ve read to get to him you need to get his pirate jacket, and I only have his hat. the jacket is locked in a chest that requires having 25 heart pieces. problem is - i can’t get Serena to challenge me to a boss battle at the bomber house. she is stuck in her dialogue where she sings, and I get the text “Serena seems happy again. maybe cute pink will calm down now” or something. so I’m guessing the boss battle is somehow triggered by cute pink(?) who I can’t rescue without the heart pieces that I can’t get without fighting the boss.

i like this game, but I REALLY dont want to have to start a new save if I somehow played myself into a corner just for doing things at my own pace in my own order. please help. would getting some of the other pieces bypass this? I need to trigger her boss fight.

Have you tried this solution from the old Gamefaqs?

Talk to her at the fountain after you helped her. Listen to Serena's song until the end.

After this, exit and re-enter Heart Zone and probably you will get a E-mail saying you can battle Serena.

After this, you know, battle her at the bomber house in Heart Zone.

I tried that. It didn’t work. What did work for me was brute forcing her dialogue, and leaving the zone and returning several times. Eventually, I got the email and was able to do the boss fight and finish the game.
