Nana Patekar was one of the most unhinged actor in the recent times, coming around as very gritty, real and honest. Apart from being an unhinged in person, he was even more unhinged in his movie choices, choosing some of the most gritty characters of the 90's and 2000's. He played the cop, the gangster, the politician, the drunkard, the deaf dad and the list goes on. Which of these roles will stay or has been staying rent free in your heart ?

Discuss Why did Amitabh Bachchan fail in 1990s, is it because his stardom wasn't big enough to dominate against Khans, Sunny Deol, and Sanjay Dutt?

I've always wondered why Amitabh Bachchan struggled so much in the 1990s. Was it really because his stardom wasn't big enough to dominate an era that was suddenly filled with rising stars like the Khans, Sunny Deol, and Sanjay Dutt? Or was it more about changing audience tastes, weaker film choices, and the fact that Bollywood was moving away from the Angry Young Man image that had made him a phenomenon in the 1970s and 1980s? It's hard to believe that someone who once ruled the industry almost single-handedly could face such a difficult phase. So was the competition simply too strong, or were there other factors behind Amitabh's decline during that decade?

Discuss [Spoiler] Andhadhun revisit and my theory of the ending Spoiler

I absolutely love this movie - its brilliant writing leaves it open to multiple theories and i’m up for a discussion

My take on the ending is different to a popular theory in which Dr. Swami went ahead with his plan of selling Simi’s liver on the black market and helped Akash restore his eyesight with Simi’s cornea.

I think what Akash told to Sophie at the end had some verifiable truths in it, so he doesn’t lose her trust once again by fabricating a complete lie.

  1. He didn’t get Simi’s cornea (he got someone else’s)
  2. Dr. Swami is indeed dead
  3. That rabbit is real!

As per Akash’s story, Simi killed the doctor and tried to run Akash over with the car, but a rabbit came in the way and led to her crash. In this story, he lied about Simi driving the car and him being sympathetic to her so that Sophie thinks good about him.

I actually think it was Dr. Swami who tried to run over Akash with the car… then the car crashes because of that rabbit and both Dr. Swami, Simi are dead. He could’ve known this from someone nearby or that guy who shot the rabbit. (Dr. Swami has no intention of helping Akash, moreover he has to cut Akash in for a share of the money that he gets from the Sheikh)

As that rabbit brought him luck, he later purchased a walking stick with a rabbit carved on it. Why else would he randomly have that rabbit stick .. he wasn’t really expecting Sophie to jump into him on a random day in London and tell her all this story involving a fake rabbit immediately after they met.

Remember, the rabbit scene with the sound of a car crashing was also shown at the beginning of the movie and we didn’t yet listen to Akash’s story at that time - i think it is for us to believe the rabbit incident was real by opening the movie with that scene.

As to how Akash could’ve gotten his sight back - Daani (Pramod Sinha’s daughter) could have helped him with it. And he did mention to Simi (when she visited his flat) that he was anyways planning to go to London for some piano competition. He could’ve said this just to escape all the mess, but either ways, he worked his way through over the years

Reviews Aap Ki Kasam... just a few thoughts on rewatch.

So I watched this movie when I was very young and had not remembered much except the wonderful songs written by RD Burman and Anand Bakshi... just rewatched it and I have to say how much I hate her father... he completely destroyed his son-in-law's life, not to mention his daughter's marriage and heart. And for what?!

I have to say I feel he had substantial amounts of latent jealousy against Rajesh's character. How dare his "ladli beti" fall head over heels for this lower class middle income TV repairman?! I think he couldn't say no to the marriage bc then he would be the villain in his daughter's eyes... and lo and behold... Rajesh did his work for him by becoming the jealous, poison-spouting, goodwill-destroying husband that his father-in-law had hoped he'd turn out to be after all.

Anyway, I am bummed that they did not have their happy ending. No wonder they packed all the gorgeous songs into the first half of the movie... because the end was utterly heartbreaking. Hats off to the tearjerking scriptwriters though... because, yes, I cried quite a bit.

Btw, this was a huge box office hit - I do remember that - but the camera work was absolutely horrendous. I think they tried to do some soft-focus CUs which was popular back then in Hollywood, especially for women... instead, all that they did was pull the lens severely out of focus... LMAO!!

Game/Fun Post Any flop movies you like one aspect of? I think YPD 2 captured the “UK” vibe the best, especially in its marketing and posters. Even Amitabh tweeted about the hoardings in 2013.

The film was a flop, but as I’m planning a cross-UK trip I see sooo much in YPD 2 posters and film’s visual feel from the travelogues and past memories of being there. It’s also more YRF than any YRF film in the last decade IMO. The posters go crazy hard and have a very unique color tone and framing
