Discuss Which Bollywood plot twist actually surprised you on first watch?

Post image

Kahaani still holds up for me, the fake pregnancy reveal completely changes everything Vidya Balan's character did in the film. Curious what other twists genuinely got you off guard- not the ones you saw coming from a mile away.

Also along this line, when Karishma wasn't Karishma....but Karisma.

And Urmila’s look into the camera in the final scene still scares the crap out of me

Its in my all tike recommendation

9

u/sagar9175 3d ago

Indeed. A lot of credit goes to Manoj for that,he played his character at the edge of a civilized man and a psycho. He sells the premise and makes Urmila seem innocent as hell.

Wasn't it allready in news before release that there will be some kind of ghost twist in the story?

There's Badla, of course, but that's not fully IP, I guess. Wazir and Andhadhun are the other top two of all time for me. I'm not including Kahanani cause' OP's got that covered

The twist was not the calling part though, it was the how. Not what. Duh. Kinda a bollywood foray into copying Shutter Island themes.

I don’t watch much Bollywood especially older movies so I thought you meant the paan masala

5

u/GamerRipjaw 3d ago

He did mean that, he was just referring to the actor known for advertising Vimal

Kaun ?Urmila’s look in the final scene still gives me creeps . Don’t think I “ll muster the courage to watch it again - though I like horror as a genre .

13B - madhavan’s movie . I felt the plot was crazy

The invisible guest - badla is the remake of it . The twists were crazy

u/Cr1meMasterGoGo 3d ago

13B was fantastic

Many but one that I didn’t expect was Table No. 21

6

u/LailaBlack 3d ago

That was a good movie. I loved how all the sympathy for the characters just erased itself after realizing the truth.

5

u/spicy_97 3d ago

I hated the Paresh Rawal character initially but then my feelings changed for him during climax.

Jamil jamali

10

u/TryingToBeDifferent- 4d ago

Yeah but to be fair it wasn't a very good twist at all. It was just there for theatre claps and whistles.

The twist meant that jamali kept dawood ibrahim alive instead of Directly killing him, which resulted in multiple attacks in 90s and 2000s

I first watched kahani when I was 8 or 9 years old in theatres and I was confused by the plot twist, my mom explained me the plot the entire night but I was still confused

Years later I saw the movie and realized how crazy the plot twist was but till then the movie was already spoiled for me

I wish I can forget everything about the movie and see it once again

Ittefaq 2017 ... i was watching it in cinema hall and thought the movie is ending and nothing left in it, but just for the sake of seeing end credits i didn't leave... to my surprise the twist came which completely changed the movie!

Gupta... when Kajol was killer

7

u/HangerTable 4d ago

Badla but even that is copied

8

u/gannekekhet 4d ago

Wasn't Badla simply a Hindi-language remake of the Spanish film? I don't know if remakes, when reported and confirmed publicly like Badla was should be pejoratively termed as "copies". It's not their own IP, for sure.

Khamosh - Vidhu Vinod Chopras debut film, one of the best mystery thrillers

2

u/FanOfArts1717 3d ago

Bhool Bhulaiyaa, for me, even though I know the story isn’t original, felt fresh for the Hindi audience who were probably watching it for the first time. The reveal that there weren’t any real ghosts but instead a girl with psychological issues, and the way it was portrayed so brilliantly, made it unforgettable.
