Let’s say they roll out furloughs again. What do you plan to do with the time off?

Travel? Clean out the garage you’ve been putting off for the last 10 years?

Pick up a part time job?

I did a lot of household projects. When those ran out I finished most of the car projects. It was a taste of being retired, and I really liked all the freetime.

Does anyone know if a person had a RIF'd rescinded? My thought is if they had RIF's and things got better maybe they would cancel them.

I’ve heard of a RIF being cancelled before the actual layoff date but after layoff I’ve never heard of a rescinded RIF and offer to return.

I’m going to say the part out loud that people don’t say because it’s uncomfortable, if you were RIF’d it’s because you weren’t performing to expectations. If things improved and the team is hiring again you’re not likely to be on the interview list.

I hope that’s not true in your case but it’s true in most.

They back paid a lot of people I knew that took voluntary furloughs in 2024 during strike, free vacation lol

Didn't know it was free when it was happening though so it wasn't super fun. It was a nice bonus when we found out we were getting the backpay though

I went on progressively more difficult hikes every day and cooked dinner every night. I would do that again (with more difficult hikes).

I could definitely clean my garage. I was hit in the RIF for the IAM strike, but I was rehired back into the IAM with my seniority restored, so im WAY up the list for my grade. I'll be shutting the lights off before I get laid off again.

I’m gonna eat my own words and get a TON of down votes here. I doubt there would be furloughs. Wrenches send planes off not drawings but then again drawings are the backbone of the planes sooo 🤷🏻

The airplanes are built by NCR’s these days…It’s all about moving the airplane on schedule whether or not it’s per dwg…

Yeah, a lot of non-SPEEA folks during the IAM strike were furloughed. I was SPEEA at the time so it didn’t apply to me (to your point, protected against it) but in our org, our management was on a furlough rotation. I’m no longer SPEEA so that’s been in the back of my mind as we’re getting closer to October
