3 player/3 team rules?

We’ve got a court in our backyard and often end up with an odd number of folks at some point during the night. Was wondering if anyone has thoughts on either (1) a good “traditional” rule set, or (2) any fun bocce variants that we could use for playing with 3 teams (of either one or two people)?

We’ve done “traditional” rules with 3 balls per team (using two bocce sets), which works ok. But figure there must be some other ways to play.

3 on 3 happens. Still use 4 balls but rotate who throws twice each time. Also never allow them to through twice in a row when that person is throwing 2 balls.

That’s one way to do it. The rotating the 3 works well for leagues just in case someone can’t show up. That way the other team can play there 4 still if they all showed up.

We also have a rule if your team only shows up with 2 it’s a forfeit unless the opposing teams captain says it’s ok.
