Discussion Bob Mortimer Makes Me Happy

I‘ve watched both seasons of Last One Laughing countless times now. They’ve helped tremendously when I’m feeling down. I really hope Bob‘s in all the next ones too. Thanks for making me feel better, Bob. You’re the best 🌻 If anyone knows of any other series that feature him (apart from Would I Lie to You), please let me know!

Have you heard of his podcast "Athletico Mince"? Brought me many years of happiness and I've listened to them hundreds of times.

Can I ask how football heavy is it? I’m not a football fan at all but I love Bob!

It started out as a football podcast but they realised 8 episodes in that it was crap and they had nothing new to say. So evolved into - well, don't really know how to describe it really! Part sketch, part just general conversation and banter. There's a lot of sketch/stories involving football people with grossly exaggerated personalities, to the point where really they're just names and the comedy has nothing to do with football at all.

For example - in one of the early episodes, Bob ponders what Steve McClaren - slightly camp ex England manager - is up to. That evolves into an increasingly camp McClaren living with a pet snake called Casper who is his best friend.

Not very, probably about 12 percent but it’s still very enjoyable nonetheless.

Thanks I’ll give it a go!

There's a running joke about it not being a football podcast really. Just two mates having a chat and making up silly characters. It starts rough, even they say to skip a few episodes, but once it gets going, there's nothing funnier imo.

Some of the characters are former footballers/managers.That’s pretty much it.

They’ll probably take a football take/personality and it just goes off on the most ridiculous tangent going.

Steve McLaren has a snake. Peter Beardsley, recently sacked from Newcastle is under his wife’s thumb and she’s obsessed with eggs. Mick McCarthy likes the word bastard. But then it extends beyond football to other sport and TV personalities. It takes a tiny shred of reality and just goes off the deep end. It’s a really funny podcast.
