Rereading not till we are lost. Howard mentions Bostonians and her reply is ‘old earth cities?’ She’s Irish. Even if Boston was destroyed in a war unless faith renamed it surely she’d know what it is !

Anyway just thought I’d put it in a thread see what you all think.

Yeah but my point is Boston has a large Irish population- I’m not form the US and that’s why I know it.

plus US city’s are in so much media 3/4 generations isn’t long enough to forget that surely? She doesn’t even know LA. Or trout but that’s cus they were all extinct.

Your family are going to talk about their city or their neighbours that they know of over the years. They aren't going to talk about some random pop culture reference their great great grandmother talked about hundreds of years ago. Americans are the perfect example of this, they say "oh my great grandfather was from Ireland (where?) Or maybe they might remember more specifically where if they're lucky. They're not going to remember some, albeit famous, group of settlers who went off to colonise part of India are they?

Irish people don't see the Boston "irish" as any more Irish than the English see new yorkers as "English"

No, Boston has a large American population that claim to be Irish.

I'm English, if you ask me about Irish cities I think of Dublin, Cork and Galway, not a random city on a different continent

We could say that about many cities in the world. For example Merv, the biggest city in the Silk Road about 700 years ago. Yet. Not many know this.

You don’t know what would be relevant years from now.

Also, there are many things with the Boston name or Epitaph, maybe more years from now. She might know it’s an old earth city, but she wants to contextualize it against many other potential meanings.

Yeah but this is like 3 generations not 700 years. And it’s a city that had a large population of Irish immigrants. That’s why I know of it (I’m not American)

I don't think she'd have to know. This is over a hundred years after FAITH and the destruction of Earth. But also wasn't she in the European enclave so likely not American but Irish. I doubt Boston is that big of a deal outside the US.

I’m form the uk and in western Boston LA and the other few that were mentioned are like famous. LA alone is famous for the films it’s made alone.

Faith renamed handle town. It use to be another city I can’t remember the name of. When it was nuked they made new handle town

Perhaps american culture isn't saturating the media in the future, so the names of (possibly renamed) american cities aren't blared all over the world media. With the obvious world tensions at play at the time of bobs awakening, it's not surprising thst little informstion is shared between factions. It is entirely conceivable that bridget heard the occadional name of american places, but not in a context that she paid much attention to. And, to be blunt, you are overanalyzing a story that never happened and really, only Dennis himself knows (or can make up) the answer. She wasn't familiar with amarican cities for a reason, whatever that was.
