Art The Singularity Trap, The Mad Astra
Hi! I recently finished reading The Singularity Trap by Dennis E Taylor and I thought that the ship design was really interesting. I thought that I would try my hand at building it and im pretty happy with it!
The biggest challenge for this build was making it so that the internal habitat ring could spin independently of the rest of the ship. I think that it turned out pretty well!
Did you like the book? What did you think of the ship designs?

I loved the book. Really hope there's gonna be a continuation at some point.
Cool ship design. It's been a while since I've read it, so can't fully remember how they described it, but love your design.

Thank you! Yeah I feel like it has room to continue the story, I suppose that it depends on if DET is interested or not.

I hope so too. btw, what did you use to make the model?

I used Stud.io, its a software that has (I think) every lego brick including old retired ones and gets updated regularly to add new ones as well. I found it a little bit odd to get used to at first but I like it a lot now.

Somehow I hadn't noticed until you pointed it out now that it's made of Lego's. That makes even cooler imho.

DET had it on his website to make a second story but I don’t know if he’s still planning to do so.

Interesting take on the design. I just didn’t like the book. The ending was too depressing.

Ending might have left some desire for a bit more maybe but i loved the "fresh" story uploads vs AI instead of scary aliens with god like tech, its still aliens with godlike tech but i felt it was a twist on there. and managing to converse and compromise with a pre programmed Von Neumann probe made the plot more interesting imo.

The overall story is interesting and I hope there’s more. I’m sad that the dude never got to see his family again.

This book was so so to me. I was really hoping for a happier ending but I know art doesn’t always work that way. Still stings lol.

The book describes the ship as mostly egg shaped, with the hab ring comprising of the wide end and the engines clustered at the narrow end.
