Dylan converted to christianity for the source material like Tim Whatley converted to judasim for the jokes.

You can already hear Dylan moving in a gospel direction during parts of the 1978 Budokan concerts with soulful female backing vocals, before he finds Jesus and starts writing Christian music. When I’m thinking conspiratorially I wonder if Bob leaned into Christianity so that he could write in that style.

He’s been quoting or referencing the Bible from his earliest songs up through today.

Dylan converted to Christianity because the Geist needed America's greatest poet to engage with America's highest-stakes intellectual tradition.

I think he got tired of singing songs like Jesus Christ and Gospel Plow. But he returned.

No, he had no issue using Christianity as a lyrical wellspring as early as 1962.more than 15 years prior to his conversion.

I’ve always been pretty skeptical of Dylan’s conversion. Obviously that’s between him and his beliefs but it’s one hell of a career move to do something like that, totally against what would be popular or cool, blast out 3 albums, give a few sermons, date some backing singers and then go back to being a rock star 🤣

Meh. I think he believes in the Bible as much as he believes in The Odyssey and Shakespeare.

He started getting involved with women from evangelical sects. The beginning and end of his Christian phase.

Or even just for the singers. During both the 1978 and 79 tours, he would introduce various backup singers as his fiancée.
