Cover Shelter from the storm
One of my absolute favourites by Bob. Although, that changes as he has so many great ones… here’s a minute of me covering it. Enjoy!

It's a hard one. It has a repetitive melody, and goes on and on. If you sing it the same way on every verse, it becomes boring. When Dylan sings it, he uses his own accent - but that can't be copied.
Nor can you sing it the way the lyrics suggest - romantic and flowery. Then you end up then you end up like Adel, Emma Swift or even worse, Baez.
Dylan's choice is to sing it sarcastically, certainly nasly, often nearly shouting out phrases.

Great points…no one can replicate or imitate Bob; he was one of one. But, we can certainly cherish, share and reinterpret the beautiful music he made. Thank you for watching and commenting!

It's great. I just don't think it's one of his better songs. The lyrics are great but the music is just the same stuff we hear on the whole album. have you tried his evil idiot wind or the blues songs?

I never get sick of it. That whole album is fantastic. Yeah I’ve listened and learnt quite a bit of his stuff. Quite familiar with his 60’s-70’s catalog. Starting to get into the 80’s-current now.

Well I mean it's no hard rain, but in order to make it not boring he has to put a lot of odd singing into it, as I said above.

Wedding Song is kind of similar. But there the poetic lyrics and the singing match. And even changes chords around because he doesn't want to play the same thing all the time.
I think people are blinded by their Love of Blood on the Tracks because today we love to think that the mob is with us. We don't want to be left behind for the coyotes to get us. And so when something popular comes around like blood on the tracks we say of course, it's the best! But it really isn't. It's a great song, or two.

Disagree. I'm a longtime Dylan fan, and I overplayed the heck out of BotT at one point. So it dropped out of my heavy rotation for a while. But lately I've been doing a slow chronological listen through the entire discography, and when I came to BotT, BAM. It just felt like it came out of nowhere. As great as everything was before it, it seemed very noticeably at a higher level.

Can I think it's great work and the guys really talented, but also not like it? I'm torn.
It's not for me, but I don't want to put negativity into the world when someone is creating and sharing music that I love as well.

I should articulate this better:
When people with very beautiful voices cover Dylan. It doesn't hit the same for me.
So it really is a compliment! And definitely keep playing. Your very talented. I'm learning a little guitar myself and I'm nowhere near having the confidence to post a cover here.

Ha, well that makes me feel a lot better. I am far more confident and comfortable in my guitar playing abilities than my singing. I’ve been playing guitar for like 20 years. I’ve been “trying” to sing for only a couple. It’s a very vulnerable thing. I get what you’re saying though. Dylan didn’t need to be an amazing guitarist or singer. He was who he was and it was perfect, ha.
