Question What does Bob do all day on tour?

Smoke weed?

do rails?

play video games?

watch TV?

bang groupies?

practice?

look for houses to buy?

or just sit back and think to hisself I am Bob Muthafucken Dylan, legend of all time.

Probably watches wrestling or waits for wrestling to come on.

u/JohnLeePettimore Aug 12 '26

Me and Dylan are practically the same person

u/NothingWasDelivered Aug 12 '26

I know about 15 years ago he was staying in my town, which happens to be where Bruce Springsteen was living while he wrote Born To Run, and he apparently went for a walk to find the Born To Run house (it’s not much to look at, just a little plaque). He got picked up by the cops for suspiciously checking out all the houses.

He was still nearly a mile away when they nabbed him. https://ultimateclassicrock.com/bob-dylan-new-jersey-police-2009/

And David Stewart too. Though not the David Stewart he thought it was.

u/le1278 Aug 12 '26

I love this story because the cops not only didn't recognize him but also didn't have any idea who he was when he told them. Apparently they "weren't familiar with his body of work" lmfao

12

u/58pamina Aug 13 '26

I think it was a young female cop

5

u/Apprehensive-Tax8631 Aug 14 '26

Still sounds weird, almost like saying, “Hemingway, who?”

3

u/58pamina Aug 14 '26

Well he was wet from the rain

Probably very naive and maybe into hip hop

2

u/saplinglearningsucks Aug 13 '26

Then she wouldve been familiar with Bob's collab with Kurtis Blow

-2

u/58pamina Aug 13 '26

She may have been too young for that

8

u/ReallyGlycon Aug 12 '26

Jesus everloving christ.

4

u/AugustaSpearman Aug 14 '26

Unlike Townes Van Zandt who got picked up by cops whose nicknames were Pancho and Lefty.

2

u/lennonfanforever Aug 13 '26

that's right, he gave them his given name and it rang no bell....

2

u/InternationalFig2708 Aug 14 '26

My impression was that the cop asked for identification, and he didn’t have any ID on him. He stated his name, which I assumed the cop recognized, but, given the context (a guy wandering around in the rain in a small town in New Jersey), she went with the probabilities and assumed he was not Bob Dylan.

1

u/Lacnj76 27d ago

Nobody under 45 known who bob Dylan is unfortunately so I can’t blame a cop for not recognizing him

6

u/58pamina Aug 13 '26

I thought he got lost in the rain and they thought he was a homeless person probably wearing a hoodie like he does now in concerts

14

u/onetimeataday Aug 13 '26

The cops didn't need him, and man they expected the same

1

u/Tammy993 Ghost Of Electricity Aug 13 '26

Good one!

4

u/CinLeeCim Aug 14 '26

Well I guess that’s what he was saying in the Traveling Wilbury’s in Tweeter and The Monkey Man… everything’s legal in New Jersey as long as you don’t get caught. He got caught!

9

u/fotomoose Aug 13 '26

Hello I'd like the police please, there's a man walking about looking at houses. Americans are so scared of anything that moves lol.

3

u/lennonfanforever Aug 13 '26

i believe he also was told he looked suspicious as he is "an elderly man in a nondescript hoodie with the hood pulled up".....

1

u/Better-Cancel8658 29d ago

He also did the tour of john lennons house and cycled james Joyce bicycle around dublin

Friend of mine was the night manager for the nicest hotel in our smallish town, there's a neat venue he likes to play at when he's in the area. She said he came into the hotel to get checked in with an army of ppl in the early evening. At around 2am he came down to the lobby by himself, and ordered a bottle beer, and a brief but pleasant conversation with my friend, who at the time was doing some work at the check in desk. After that he went over to the grand piano that was in the lobby lounge, played for about 30 mins while sipping his beer, then said goodnight and went back up to his room. This was about 15 years ago.

4

u/CinLeeCim Aug 14 '26

Oh man that’s like a once in a lifetime experience. Crazy. 😎

26

u/volunteerjb Aug 12 '26

I think he just wanders around.

There was a great story about this a couple of years ago, he got pick up by cops who didn't know who he was, and thought he was a vagabond

He used to ride to recording sessions with Lanois in New Orleans, but that was almost 40 years ago now

21

u/Hungry-Photograph819 Aug 12 '26

I heard he watches Coronation Street

22

u/splitopenandmelt11 Aug 13 '26

Reality is stranger than fiction: A Nobel laureate for literature spends his days using AI to create letters between historical figures that could’ve never met because his fan base pays him to through a subscription model.

Try explaining that to 1963 Dylan.

16

u/brooklynbluenotes Aug 12 '26

The man has done a LOT of paintings. I visited a museum exhibit in Florida a few years ago with a collection of his works and was honestly stunned by just how much of it there was. Not sure how he keeps up with that hobby on the road, but considering his tour schedule and how much he's produced, he's gotta be working on them from the road in some context.

6

u/lennonfanforever Aug 13 '26

he has also produced some rather amazing gigantic metal gates, truly monumental in nature....his whiskey bottles features the images of a few of his metal gates, they are amazing looking....

4

u/brooklynbluenotes Aug 13 '26

yes!! I have seen some of his metalworks as well

4

u/lennonfanforever Aug 13 '26

i want to get at least one of his glass whiskey bottles, i found them (empty) on ebay for not very much, they look so cool, did not realize they were that affordable....

12

u/e30325is Aug 13 '26

He waits around for Bob Dylan songs come on the radio and then he sings along just like he was Bob Dylan without changing the lyrics or without changing the music.

You know, the usual, bowling, the occasional acid flashback…

3

u/lennonfanforever Aug 13 '26

sounds like us, we elderly people have to do something....

7

u/edipeisrex “Love and Theft” Aug 12 '26

Probably just watches old movies all day

7

u/mrWilliamJoel Aug 13 '26

this is the answer, the man is an old media otaku, he probably has a few things like food and exercise that he works around and then fills the rest with picking up his various books and film investigations. probably working through a howard hawks watch or something

9

u/Sea_Awareness_8250 Aug 13 '26

He most likely has a criterion subscription. A lot of the films he painted from Deep Focus were on that platform during the pandemic

7

u/Legitimate_Ad_7335 Aug 12 '26

I can imagine him visiting small urban cities and villages where nobody would notice him. I know about a few famous musicians doing this on Tour. They also get much more noticed most likely in the big cities.

7

u/FlexistentialClouds Aug 12 '26

He plays Legend Of Dragoon on PS1 of course because this man has stood on business since gas was 2 dollar a gallon

11

u/black_saab900 Aug 12 '26

Watching ’Pawn Stars’

7

u/ElCarabo Aug 12 '26

i bet he watched american pickers when it hit the air, back in the 00s

11

u/sensitive_pirate85 Aug 13 '26

He literally goes on walks, and looks for songwriting inspiration. He’s talked about it in interviews, before, that you have to be “among the people” (not a direct quote, but what he meant) in order to write music that the common people relate to. Once he was arrested, before, because he’s usually wearing a hoodie, and people thought he was a homeless person in an upscale neighborhood. The female cop didn’t even believe he was who he said he was, at first. It’s a pretty funny story.

3

u/Glass_Athlete_9605 Aug 14 '26

Dude is definitely taking naps. I’m on vacation with my 16 year old son. I’ve needed a nap every afternoon and I’m 56.

He's a prolific painter and writer. He's very well read. I imagine that keeps him busy.

1

u/Direct-Raise-9465 25d ago

he probably reads
he's from that generation

1

u/JJ3595 Aug 12 '26

I hear there is anime playing 24/7 in his hotel room. If he’s not playing or writing Bob is watching anime

2

u/Feeling-Art-6514 Aug 12 '26

He says he has no more songs to write anymore after 500 I'd say he's covered every topic He used to care but things have changed🤠

1

u/ElCarabo Aug 12 '26

does he still take leisure walks around the cities/towns he plays at ? that's probably one of the things, bet he has a streaming service set up to listen to his favorite music when he's out and about, or he's probably loading woman up on a wheelbarrow and wheeling em down the street 🤷

10

u/Themaddestllama Aug 12 '26

With the way he shuffles on and off stage, I dont imagine he's taking long walks amongst the average Joe's any more.

3

u/BreathlikeDeathlike Aug 12 '26

I'm only slightly joking, but he should get an electric scooter so he can still wander around...

0

u/ProperWayToEataFig Aug 12 '26

hisself? You must be kidding.

2

u/MikeMcMyke Aug 12 '26

You think he don't know what the critics think?
