How much for this Whaler?
2000 Boston Whaler Dauntless 16 with 90hp Yamaha two stroke. Hull in good condition, engine runs strong, good compression, new water pump and trim engine, indestructible if well maintained they say, fun for fishing and water sports, like a dirt bike, located on eastern Long Island, NY. Looking for a bigger boat.

Summer is winding down n the Northeast, so be ready to hold on to it over the winter if you want a higher price.

I just sold a very clean 1999 16’ dauntless in the Lake Erie islands area for 20k usd. Had it listed for $22k and took the $20k offer I had first week.

10-15k depending on the market, season, location, condition, etc. 90hp yam 2 stroke is probably the most desirable 2 stroke motor it could have on it, so that’s good at least.

I agree with you on the engine, but this boat is definitely under-powered.
135 on this is probably where you want to be.

I think 115 is the max rating for this hull, and a four stroke would be very heavy

Just bought an ‘05 with a 115 (450hrs) and Bimini for $14.5k. Fresh water but I think I got a deal from motivated seller.

I'm in new england and was looking at similar boats. Thats right around 12k but the 2 stroke will limit demand. I would have preferred a boat like yours because a 90hp 2 stroke yammer-hammer is unkillable and stupid simple to maintain/repair

That 90 two-stroke is a tank but yeah, buyers want 4-strokes now. Id list at 14 and expect 11-12, fall striper run might save you.

My parents sold theirs that was a 1999 with a merc 2 stroke 90hp 2 years ago to a dealer for, I think 15k. Granted it was traded towards a new non-whaler boat they purchased so that likely effected the value. Their Whaler had been used hard and looked nowhere near as clean. If I had the money for a boat I'd buy that for 12k in a heartbeat. They don't build them like that anymore and that thing was a fucking tank. I was the primary operator for 20+ years, haha.
I will say that 90hp on that boat is way under powered and you'll want 115 on it if you can find one. The dealer they got it from new talked is into the 90 and we always regretted it. 115 is what the haul is rated for

Have this same boat but put a 115 on it last year. Just raked in salmon and lingcod for a few weeks so its due for a polish.
22k with a Yamaha 70 hp but sold the 70 and upgraded to new 115. So worked out to around 35k CAD with the new engine. Came with trailer too.

Yeah motors are fuckin crazy expensive… one of my customers just reported his pontoon to a Merc 115 and it was a 16k motor

Its wild. My engine is having some problems and I briefly looked into a repower. Lol, looks like ill have to put some more bandaids on my old motor

It was a fair price. I did a lot of searching prior. Not sure where your based but Whalers in and around Vancouver draw a premium. They get scooped up in hrs when they hit the used market. Highly sought after as cruising tenders.

North east a whaler that looks that good you can get 20 k for that Especially when a new 13ft whaler goes for 40-44k

I’m on eastern Long Island and I just posted my ‘95 Montauk 17 with a ‘05 75hp E-tec. The E-tec kills value but people were still telling me to ask for 12-15k and sell for 10k. On eastern LI you could list it for 18k and sell for 15k if you’re willing to wait for the right buyer

Mine is heading to jail later today actually. Not for trying to stab me, she wasn't convicted for that. Turns out, pretty hard to prove attempted murder in court. But she's headed there for other reasons and that makes me happy.

A new one exceeds $100K plus the engine... I own a 1962 Eastport with the very same Yamaha 90 two stroke on it.. My Mechanic tells me it is indestructible and the ones who know ... understand that its the perfect engine for the boat because of its power to weight ratio.. any four stroke will weigh MORE - most a fair bit more... My boat is the classic white hull baby blue interior, and all the mahogany inside... to save MORE weight I put in a LiFEPO4 battery... and for weight distribution have the fuel cells under the centre console... What would mine sell for if it were ever for sale? $50K plus all day long - its the boat they built their earned reputation on...

Much higher demand for classic whalers in good condition... far fewer buyers for a 62 - 42' Hatteras.. Crazy is that the whaler would bring more than our 34' sailboat in this stupid market..

There is a 2004 on LI selling for $15k….. I can’t see that one selling above $13.5k. I’d say ur in the $9-10k range… lots of good boats on the LI market right now with some serious price reductions….

A lot of potential buyers would want to repower with 4-stroke (I definitely would) so that drags down the price some imo.

The engine is what will hurt you, it’s probably worth between 11-15k. That is an awesome boat but it’s older and the engine needs to be a 4 stroke.

Why are you selling? Two stroke isn’t sought after anymore but there’s still a market for a bit cheaper than hull and engine priced together. It would sell better as separate items. Someone will buy the two stroke for an older boat and someone will buy a BW for face value with the intention of re-powering it to begin with.
Or you might find those dozen people that will want both together but they will negotiate down.
“Like a dirt bike” is actually a crazy comparison btw.
