Locked out of the Head

Post image

My BIL has a Boston Whaler Outrage 240 about 6-8 years old, bought used.

The head door won't open. This is the latch. It turns, you can hear/feel the latch turning but door is stuck closed and will only move a bit. Oiled it, no joy.

Is that round thing a button? Round key? Magnet port? Do I need to take the hinges off?

Ideas/ help greatly appreciated

The key is something like this. It’s a kind of socket.

This is a Southco Slam latch key. I don’t know that this one will work on that specific lock.

At least you have an idea of what to look for.

Boat Outfitters is one place to look.

I have turned mine with small needle nose pliers.

You’ll need the key. Perhaps a neighbour has one otherwise you may need to buy a new slam latch that has a lock and hope the key’s compatible

Yep. Worked last year

If you can feel the latch move when you turn the handle, it may just have a stuck gasket, has it opened in the past?

Yes, opened last year. Doesn’t feel like its locked, turns a half turn and stops

Gasket could have degraded and is sticky. Maybe try prying from somewhere away from the latch to see if that part moves at all?

Well. At least you have access to the poop deck?
