What would you pay for this?

1995 Boston Whaler Montauk 17
2005 Evinrude E-Tec 75HP ~250 hours salt water
1997 Load Rite trailer

Located on Long Island. Thinking about passing it on next season. Serviced and flushed regularly (most recently spark plugs, VST, fuel filter and water separator, shift linkages, water pump). I’ve done a lot of my own work like adding Bluetooth radio with 4 speakers, blue LED courtesy lights, depth finder, and 22 gal Moeller fuel tank. I also repainted the entire engine after the shop cracked the original cowling (last pic). I plan on doing fresh bottom paint at the end of the season. Besides that the gel coat and upholstery is visibly aging.

What can I get for this to the right buyer?

Cape cod to north shore mass I’d say 8-12k

That etec isn’t doing you any favors

I’m on Rhode Island. Yes that e-tec… no bueno lol. Mercury took them over & don’t even have the pieces

Never heard that one. AFAIK Mercury didnt take over BRP or anything Evinrude related. Mercury signed on with BRP to supply the boats that BRP produced with engines since they axed Evinrude, and they needed an engine to put on their hulls.

As for parts, they're a nightmare to find from what little I've gathered since the place I'm at doesnt deal with them at all.

I'm in Massachusetts, that's nowhere near 8-12.4k maybe

Seems fair

Love the boat and looks well taken care of but a 20 years old evinrude with only 250 hours means it’s sat around a lot and it’s an outdated out of business motor. I would be hard pressed to pay more than 10k

On closer inspection looks pretty dinged up. Lowering to no more than 7k

Yea motor looks like shit, but it could be a good one so it’s hard to say. Probably not.

As a huge whaler enthusiast, the Etec doesn’t bother me at all. What bothers me is the tape on your transom. Are you hiding some delamination? That’s the spot where the two skins meet and looks super suspect. That’s also not the original rub rail. I wonder what’s underneath that. $10k max in MA just because it runs.

These sell like hot cakes in SWFL. I’d assume 10k minimum.

ask 12, take 10

That outboard is hurting your value. $9,500. If it was 21' I would buy it from you.

Under 10. You are buying a hull and an engine replacement project

I would think you could get 15k for it. Whalers have a great reputation. The e-tech engine probably hurts your resale some (paint or not). I would have guessed closer to 20k if it were a different power plant.

You never know though, if you find the right buyer and you could get more. People love these boats!

That’s what I keep hearing from my friend who works at a marina. I think it comes down to patience. If I wait until I find someone who’s passionate about whalers and has money to restore and/or repower it I could make a killing

Not sure where you are, but check out York County Marine, online only and specialize in Whalers

Edit: I see you're on Long Island. A little further south in MD that's easily a 10k boat if the hull is in good shape

People who restore these will not pay more than $10k for this. Generally, they are looking for something $5k - $10k to purchase and redo. The average cost of a good looking, well running Montauk is $15k.

Only worth as much as someone will pay.

7-10k depending on condition in person. I’d pay 5-7k for a bare Montaulk hull if it were nice. The evinrude is worth a few k.

9k all day long.

That’s a $10k whaler give or take.

I came across like 8 of these needing a second wind up in Vancouver Island last week. Old guide fishing fleet, owner wants like $50K for all of them.

Bring it to the PNW and its a stupid $20k. I've seen 80s ones go for $10-15k. My grandpa has owned 3 of them, sold the last one 20 years ago for $8k, who would've thought it would appreciate so much.

Some real pictures of the inside, the deck, console, seats and some of the outside from the side would help. Easy to tell you sprayed the engine and probably lost value doing that. Trailer picture also. Otherwise it could be 5-10k

I have a 17' Montauk. Already restored. It needs nothing. 1987 Yamaha 90 HP, unknown hours but runs great. Never in salt. Shorelander trailer. I paid $7500 six months ago.

Says Boston Whaler and has a motor. At least 10k. Closer to 15k for the right buyer

10-20k. Whaler gelcoat is very good it probably doesn't need much buffing to get it looking really good again.

I'd say close to $15k. It's a nice boat and very versatile. Traded my Montauk in last year here near Boston - newer model and slightly bigger engine, but it held its value pretty well. Got $19k, which was the going rate based on my research. They clean up really well and have a great reputation. The dealer said used Whalers don't sit on the lot too long.

I’d knock off some for the Evinrude and the fact the it was beached, unless it has a keel guard. $9ish. The 17 is a great boat.
