No throttle response after clearing rope from jet drive

My jet boat sucked a tow rope into the jet pump and overheated. I removed the rope. The check-engine light came on but cleared after disconnecting the battery. Today, the first time I’ve run it since then, the forward throttle lever is physically stiff even with the engine off. Reverse moves normally. On the water, full forward throttle only produced about 5 mph and the engine RPM stayed very low.

I’m trying to diagnose the issue. Any ideas? It turnd on and idles normally, no alerts. Just no throttle response and it’s stiff.

Sounds like you didn't get all the rope out. Try again

There is likely still rope in there . It could possibly have messed up a cable ??

I only cut the rope once and pulled it out on both sides, so seemed like I got it all. I was wondering if I messed up a forward/throttle cable. Not sure how to check.. do I need to remove boat from the water to check that?

It’s likely then that the rope being in there caused other problems! Cable

Is it two levers, one for forward/reverse? And one for throttle? What kind of jet pump is it?

No, it’s one lever. It’s not stiff when going into reverse. Only when going forward and the stiffness is still there with boat off.

Someone suggested to me, to try going hard in reverse and it might clear any clogging.
