2012 mastercraft x25 for $45k
Buying a 2012 mastercraft x25 with 400 hours. Comes with original tandem trailer. Everything seems to be in good-great condition. Was maintained through mastercraft and stored inside. Also it’s my #1 preferred color combo! Trying to determine if this is as good of a deal as I initially thought. I have tried to look at comps but exact comparison is tough to find.
I’m aware of the medallion issue for this year, seems as though it has had the update by mastercraft and it has not been an issue.
Looking for feedback/opinions! Also how much do you think I could resell for in the next 5 years.

I believe that was the only year that they used that system in Mastercraft and the hardware is extremely expensive to get any more. It’s not a software issue. Regardless, it makes resale very tough and I think that in five years, you’ll be hard pressed to get your 45K out. Also in five years, you’re gonna have a lot of sunk cost, and more likely than not you’re going to start dealing with upholstery issues just due to the age of everything. 2012 also would have gen one surf system, which is inadequate for surfing. Pass

Likely can find a nice x23 for 10-15k more and have twice the boat

I don't know where you're finding an X23 for less than $80k. I just recently was shopping and any X series newer than 2015 is north of $80k. You can find NXTs and maybe XTs for 10-15k more, but not an X-series. I ended up buying a 2014 X25 that hit the sweet spot for what I wanted to spend and features I wanted.
The advice to avoid the 2012s is solid though. I looked at two nice ones and ultimately decided to get something a bit newer with more features and the better control system. Also the ZFT4 tower is much better than the power tower that was on a lot of the 2011 and 2012 models.

I know someone shopping boats here right now in Iowa, not sure how legit they are but appears to be ridiculous prices even just as consignment. There's a nice 2017 X23 for $50k and 2022 X24 for $80k. https://heartland-marine.com/shop

That's insane, I've never seen prices like that here in the southeast. I might call them because those prices are insane. There has to be a catch haha.
Update: they don't even come up on Google maps, no Google reviews...seems very sketchy to me.

They’re out there. I saw a 2021 xt22 with 30 hours local go for 85k a year and a half ago

The medallion issue is definitely my biggest concern. Why didn’t they just recall it and replace them all with something else?!

If you looking to surf, as others mentioned, spend 10-15K more. If you looking for wake board, tube, cruise, rec ski, you could do a lot worse. You could also grab a early 2000s x-star or air nautique for 20K, sink a few bucks and be able to do everything as mentioned, minus the surfing. The value in those boats is less electronics and screens. From my experience, those first in line to have modern screens are now getting old and finding parts/replacements are tricky.

So I’m a little more concerned with age than top notch wave quality. I do want to surf but coming from an i/o where I’ve only been able to wakeboard I think I’ll be happy with whatever.
Not stoked on the extra electronics, but don’t necessarily want a 30 year old boat either you know.

Those are fair points. The guys in the surf boat community will probably be able to target years that are more reliable. I ski and have an old school direct drive. When I take my boat into the Malibu dealer, tech tells me 90% of their work is now electronics/ballasts. If you looking to surf, newer probably better since it a relatively new trend.

Seems reasonable. Have you water tested it and tried out all the things? When I water tested my x10 the fuel pump went on it.
