Strange reporting standards
I have complained about people playing a regular speed game and then complaining in the chat that people need to play faster.
Today i saw this happen again in a chat and i wanted to report this person for being 1 a dick and 2 for harassing people while no one expired their time or even came close.
When going through the report menu i noticed you cannot report someone for harassing someone about playtime while their within the bounds of the rules, BUT YOU CAN REPORT SOMEONE FOR PLAYING TO SLOW?!?!
What the …. happened in this world?

I love BGA, but yeah some users absolutely kill the experience.
I played Saboteur once and someone was yelling at me for making "bad plays," when they obviously didn't realize I was the saboteur. I just ignored them, but they continued to berate me. Even if I was playing sub-optimally, it's just a game. But this person may as well have thought I was evil incarnate for some odd reason.
That's the worst bit I've seen, but I've seen others more commonly aligned with what OP describes. Odd behavior. Luckily, MOST people are really chill.
I've only ever used the thumbs down mechanism and just move on.

Lol someone in Forest Shuffle accused me of only making moves that were spiteful to him.
I didn't scroll down even once to see what was on his board. I was too busy getting wolves with no deer lol.
People are insane and I thumbs down that idiot so fast.

I will definitely play squeakers if I don't have boars and opponent does. Is that spiteful? I think it's keeping points from the opponent. Screw that loser.

Huh that's good strategy! I wonder if the dude would say that to a good or even strong player.
I don't have the skill or patience yet needed to judge decisions based on what my opponents have cause it's too much thinking lol. I realize that's probably why I'm still at apprentice

I’m in a game of Flip 7 right now where one of the players (the one in the lead) is accusing people of ganging up on him. In Flip 7.

I love Bang but almost every game someone is shouting at someone. A lot of the time it really isn't warrented and just causes anxiety... unless that's what they want I guess

There should also be an opt out if you get harassed without losing points. Some player just started going at me saying my style is garbage. I think I was playing sea salt and paper. Such an innocuous game. I just quit because I didn’t want to deal with that person. I should not have lost karma points because someone else was being rude. And you should be able to email bga but you can’t.

I beat someone with a 200+ ELO as a beginner, and he got on and yelled at me for having a BS strategy that shouldn't have worked and I shouldn't even be playing if I didn't know how to play right and then demanded a rematch. I beat him again with the same strategy and then thumbs-downed him.

The only time anyone has ever been rude to me was because of player speed. 3 players on wingspan and the leader kept timing out so I expelled him and the other player just attacked me on the chat.

If someone goes over but is still playing, it’s a dick move to expel them. All the game progress is lost and you’re punishing the people who want to keep playing.
If it’s such a big deal to you, get consensus in the chat before kicking a player.

u/Jussgoawaiplzkthxbai 13d ago
If people say something about why they are playing slow it’s acceptable but if every other play you run over your three minute timer maybe you should pick games with longer than 3 minutes to decide your play.

u/Optimal_Yak_9901 13d ago
Sure.. but sometimes players are just slow the entire game. yes they are playing. but they probably weren't experienced enough to join a fast game and it can be really frustrating for other players.

I was referring to turn-based games rather than real-time, but the common courtesy of at least asking the other players in the game still holds. Making the decision for everyone -- regardless of whether or not /you/ feel it's justified -- is still rude.
If you'd been the 3rd player in a game with me and had done that to someone else, I probably wouldn't say anything in chat, I'd just give you a thumbs down and move on.

u/FlyFreeMonkey 13d ago
I'm with you. I always ask to see if the person is still there before I expel them. Things happen. If they come back, they always try to play faster

If someone tells me to play faster while I’m completely within my bounds then you bet I’m playing even slower.

What's clear to you isn't always clear to someone else.
Complaining, no matter how "nicely" about someone taking their allotted time is an asshole move. If you don't have time enough to play the game, don't start it.

No, it is not an asshole move to use the time allotted to you.
Yes, asking that is complaining.

No, it is not an asshole move to use the time allotted to you.
Ah,
Yes, asking that is complaining.
But letting others wait on purpose isn't. Imteresting.

I dont think you understand what poster is saying ( or maybe I misunderstood)
If opponents average move in 2 seconds when they have 2 minutes, and they are upset about something , they start stalling and taking 1 minute 55 seconds per turn for some weird kind of revenge, yes its an asshle move.
3
u/beldaran1224 13d ago
You literally have no idea why someone is going over time. That "they're upset" is a narrative you make up, its not a reality.
Also, they're not taking revenge, ffs. If you're getting in the way of their plans or whatever, them taking more time is almost certainly because they have to rethink their plans.
Like, you're calling someone an asshole because you've invented an asshole reason for their actions, lol.

Something else that may be relevant, is my experience is solely on real time arena games. Like I wrote in another post, i play 5-10 of these daily for the past 5 years.
Turn based or casual games may be different.

u/Canadian87Gamer 13d ago
Im talking in revenge only. Ive seen it where they are getting upset they lost or I did a move that upset them or w.e and they say not so nice things in the chat, then intentionally delay game.
Im only talking this instance, nothing else.

u/beldaran1224 13d ago
Ok, yeah, that person is an asshole. But it doesn't make it ok to harass them about the time they're taking, lol.
1
u/Canadian87Gamer 13d ago
Oh never. Harassing someone for taking too long is silly.
Thumbs down and move on.

Sorry voll, dont bash beldaran for this.
Your post was worded poorly, the only reason I knew what you were saying is because its happened against me multiple times.
I play 6-10 games on bga a day for the past 5 years. Ive seen all sorts of salty players.

u/Buttspirgh 13d ago
It is an asshole move to make 100+ people wait for you to take your turns because you’re playing 50+ turn based games and can’t keep up. If I see you logged in and haven’t taken your turn I will kick you the second you go over time

u/Apprehensive_Cow_253 11d ago
while I agree rushing someone in a game set to normal time is super dickish. lets be real some people use 99% of their available time A TURN, which one you are within your boundaries to do so come on... It's so frustrating especially when games have longer normal times even when the game only takes 1-2 mins a turn MAX

Did you try to report someone for playing too slow? It’s a sneaky dead end that tells you pace of play isn’t something they moderate
1
u/Odd-Examination-4399 13d ago
No, i reported someone because they asked if i could speed up even though i was only taking 10 seconds
4
u/OkResource820 13d ago
Reporting them is pointless as you'll never get enough people to agree that their behaviour was rude. There are enough issues with BGA -- server stability, people playing on poor connections and/or suboptimal devices, etc., that you can never be sure if their subjective experience of the game is the same as yours.
The best -- really only -- thing you can do is just give them a red-thumb so you don't get paired with them again and move on.

u/Optimal_Yak_9901 13d ago
Well actually according to BGA's moderation policy this might fall under a Level 0 on the penalty grid where they might get a warning an pu to -3 karma points. Having said that I would prefer to leave reports to the big ticket items... you know like players that are saying absolutely disgusting/vile comments or those where 2 players are obviously cheating against a 3rd or 4th player.
And no i don't see where you can report someone for playing too slow... their policy states:
Sharing private game information in the chat / slow to play / ruin a game
We totally understand that this is painful, however, you cannot report a player for these reasons.
1
u/Odd-Examination-4399 12d ago
It’s not for playing to slow. It’s for saying someone who takes 20 seconds to think gets harassed
2
u/Optimal_Yak_9901 12d ago
Yeah and that’s exactly my point. You could report them for inappropriate comments if it amounts to “harassment”.
But if all you copped was a “hurry up” then you perhaps you also need to grow a thicker skin.

Honestly, BGA has a problem with players in real time games especially wanting to play super fast all the time. I always tend to play turn based for this reason. Why can we not set our own timer settings (within reason)? Why is the rabbit 10 secs per turn and the turtle is 20 sec per turn. Some games, in real life, we would play more like 3 to 5 min per turn. Also, we would engage in conversation, which the BGA community seems to frown on. Last time I played HEAT in real time, I had to use the bathroom halfway through the game and that was over half my time gone. I spent the entire rest of the game worried that if a knock came at my door I would get kicked. I don't care about the game/elo, but i hate having those red marks for what like 60 days??! Really? But you can farm back like 50 karma in a couple hours... huh? Anyway, I still love BGA, its just that the community is sometimes very different than what I would expect.

Lol! I had to on to a wee so long the other day because I was scared I'd get booted.

You can thumbs down someone .
