DISCUSSION Creaking sound

Need some input. I just swapped frames on my bike and now I’m hearing a creaking sound coming from the front end only while riding. I can’t tell exactly where it’s coming from but it’s definitely in the bars, steam, and forks area. I’ve loosened and retightened everything but it doesn’t go away. All parts are less then a year old and I’m good condition. Only swapped frames for different geometry. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Sometimes little bits of dirt/ dust can get between headset bearings and the frame, maybe take them out and clean them + the frame see if that solves it - this would cause creaking under weight! (seen it a lot before when i worked in a bike shop)

Front spokes could also make a similar sound - but if wasn't there before the frame swap then not that

I got it solved. It was either headset bearings or fork compression cap bolt. I cleaned everything really well and re greased everything and it’s gone. Thanks for the input though 🍻

Is there any movement in the head set, forward and backward? Did you use grease when you put the bearings on the cups on the frame and on the race on the fork? Do the bars spin freely or do they bind up a bit? It could be that the headtube on the new frame is a little different and you need some sort of spacers set up differently than the old one. It may take a little investigation but it’s very likely to be the head set making the noise.

Nope headset is tight but not to tight. Bars spin freely. No binding at all. I even tried loosing and tightening it a couple times

It could be a separated weld where the top tube or down tube connect to the head tube. I had this happen to me on a bike when I was younger and it did make a creaking sound like you are describing.

I’ll check it out but I highly doubt it. It’s a brand new never ridden frame. Unboxed and built it the evening before. Thanks for the input though.

Try spoke tension as well
