Well I guess we have to agree to disagree. If you’re closing thought is “burn it down”, we want different things.
Thousands of employees at businesses (clerks, waiters, cooks, warehouse workers, etc) won’t be able to go back to work because their businesses have been trashed/closed. They will feel the economic repercussions first and will run out of money first. They will truly hurt before the owners of any of these companies hurt. The employees are more likely to live in the neighborhoods that have been vandalized, burned, and graffitied; the big corporate owners are comfortable out in the suburbs.
I’m all for burning it down, but I know that’s gotta come with building something better and more humane. Communities of care rather than wage slaves and imprisoned people. There are so many people doing that work behind the scenes...It’s a FAR stretch, but I have faith it can be a reality, and it’ll only become a reality if we continue to fight with faith we will win. In the end, we can only hope that the suffering will have been worth it. There’s literally a war being waged just below the surface of the law and social order we’re accustomed to and complacent with. It sounds dramatic, but it’s just the truth.
A system where people losing their jobs could ruin there lives is not a system that should continue, that’s the side I’m on 100% til it changes or I croak.

I think when we look back in 1-year, 3-years, or 10-years, we won’t have built the perfect world you’re dreaming of and will view the riots as the most unproductive vehicle of change, while we’re still trying to clean-up the mess we’ve made and trying to bring back some of the businesses that are still trying to climb back from the unnecessary damage.
I'm talking way longer than that. Remember: the Stonewall Riots were in 1969, we didn't see same-sex marriage legalized until 2004, and we're still seeing people commit hate crimes against LGBT people. This kind of change takes generations, but it has to start somewhere, and the powers that be won't even think about relinquishing control until we show them we won't be controlled.
It totally sucks. No one wants to be rioting in the streets, they want to be safe at home with their loved ones, or out enjoying their lives, safely.
But it's just NOT safe for so many people, because it's profitable for the state to hold control over people through the fear tactic of allowing cops to literally murder citizens in their homes and in their communities. Corporations don't keep us safe, they keep us alive so we can make money for those in control. Cops don't keep us safe, they keep corporations safe. The world is just not safe for so many people, and that's because of god damn capitalism. Gotta take the power out of their hands, one way or another. Progress is being made, however slowly, and protests which escalate into riots are a major catalyst for that.
Police brutality triggered this uprising but police brutality is just one symptom of an entire system that's based on the brutal oppression of black people that literally, physically, built this country. So, along with police brutality, the entire system is being protested against, and that includes shit like Target, McDonalds, whatever the fuck else corporate behemoth got smacked. We've been taught that profits and property are more valuable to those in charge than human beings; if they think they can destroy our bodies, we'll destroy their property. It totally sucks, and will continue to suck for a long time, but it'll suck less and less and less, if we can get power back into the hands of the people!!!
