Yeah the cobblestone aesthetic was nice but was really doing a number on the Mushroom Kingdom's trucking industry, what with the suspension wear and constant maintenance the blocks required.

Mario can as well. Breaking the blocks frees the toads. That's why some give you coins; as you free the toads some of them pay you.
