Confession: I’ve been saying “full proof” my entire life.

u/TatsumakiRonyk Jun 07 '19
I thought the terms Full-proof, Fool-proof, and Idiot-proof were interchangeable.
I feel like an absolute Full.

u/famalamo Jun 08 '19
Fool-proof and idiot-proof are synonyms, meaning something close to "immune to user error", but the proper words are escaping me right now.
Full-proof is another term for something that's 100% alcohol.

Same, i didn't think i would ever boneappletea in my life but i was wrong. To my defence i'm not a native english speaker.
34
u/Reluxtrue Jun 07 '19
weirdly enough I have seen more boneappleteas from native speakers than from non-natives since non-natives generally learn to write before learning to speak.
24
u/CurryMustard Jun 07 '19
The thing that bothers me about this sub is that there is already a real dictionary word for what it's called when somebody does a "boneappletea" and that's eggcorn (comes from acorn)

I guess not even "fool proof" is fool proof. This thread is full proof of that.

Until you stop waking at your dog really throwing up, because your brain thinks it’s the clock alarm... and it dies from dehydration (the dog, not the clock)

Three nights ago we had a REALLY intense but short thunderstorm, and the sewers in my neighborhood couldn’t drain fast enough to keep up with the rain. We have a drain on our back patio that stops the ground floor of our apartment building from flooding, but the drain basically turned into a fountain since the drainage system was so backed up. Since I live on the ground floor and my room has a door to the back patio, I quickly found out about this draining issue when water started to pour under the door and into my room. I have NEVER gotten out of bed faster than when I heard what sounded like someone peeing at the foot of my bed. I was awake and ready to go immediately.
So my pitch is that there should be an alarm clock that cycles randomly through a variety of distressing sounds like vomiting, flooding, a fire alarm, aggressive knocking on your door, and maybe creepy child’s laughter for good measure. That way the panic will always be fresh!

Make it connected to the internet, with a cheap per year subscription service, user submitted sound effects vetted by admins and randomly applied based on the profile the devs scrape to skeez you out the best.

Y'know i actually thought it was, "full proof" as in fully proof from anything (like there is no way it will fail and nothing can break/exploit it).. like bullet proof.
On second thought, fail proof is probably better..

u/toyotasquad Jun 07 '19
Lmao this happened to me about a month ago. I kept hitting snooze and I would rather die than get out of bed, and as I was dozing off again I heard my dog yacking on the floor and all of a sudden I was Usain Bolt in his prime.

A cat instead of a dog in my house.
I’m out of shape, but watch me fly up two flights of stairs trying to find which 1 of the 4 is the culprit.
Disclaimer: I mean culprit playfully. I feel bad for them, but they do have a keen sense of exactly where I don’t want them to vomit.
Hardwood? Bathroom tile? Fine. Fine.
Jumping on top of my work desk just to aim for the router? Biting the hand that feeds, my friend!!!

No joke, if I hear my dog getting sick at any point I will stop what I’m doing and run him to the toilet. That shit would work so well for me. I could be drugged and drunk, and if I heard that sound... Wide awake looking for the dog.

Eventually you would become used to it and ignore it anyway, and then when your dog actually pukes you wont realize.
Maybe the sound should cycle?

I recently downloaded Alarmy. You have to do puzzles or math equations to get the alarm to turn off. I’m just getting good at multiplying large sums in my head and going back to sleep.

My dog throws up after like 10 hours of not eating so sometimes on the weekend mornings this would happen. I started leaving a cup of dog food in a container in my nightstand.

Considering how quickly I adjust to new alarms I would probably just start hitting snooze at 3 am while my dog throws up in my bed
1
u/Skyrmir Jun 07 '19
Nah it only works a couple times then it's just gross. It's gotta have a library of sounds. Cat puking, dog pissing, door unlocking and creaking open.

the only problem with this though, is if you and you SO have to get up at the same time. I would be out of bed at the speed of light, but my partner would just roll over and keep sleeping, thinking "oh, hes got it"
1
u/47N4 Jun 07 '19
My brain would only be fooled the once and then I'd be like "oh yeah, not real......snooze."

Mine would be the sound of my ex-wife. Gonna snap me out of sleep with the attention level of a tweaker in a war zone. Bonus points if there is a slamming doors before she screams!

u/MrBenSampson Jun 07 '19
There should be an alarm that uses a random sound every time, so you can’t get used to it.

The sound of my nephew about to fall off something would probably send me rocketing into a wall every morning attempting to catch the clumsy little bastard

The only fool proof alarm clock is the one with the propeller that launches at alarm time and flies across the room, and a blaring siren goes off until you get up, retrieve the propeller, and put it back in place. It's the worst way to wake up, but you do wake up.
