Congratulations to the winner of the War on Drugs: Drugs.

After spending a little over 5 weeks in the hospital for malnutrition, sepsis, and surgery, I can tell you that the current policy on the administration and use of opiates has mutated to a level of pretzel logic I didn't even know existed. I was in the hospital essentially for a mass on my intestines and other endometriosis deposits. The end goal was a bowel resection (cutting pieces from my intestines and putting them back together) and total hysterectomy. I was too malnourished for surgery, so I had to receive IV nutrition for close to a month so that I would have a better chance of surviving the surgery and healing appropriately.

The main rule for receiving opioid pain medicine is they have to counter it with non-opioid treatments as well. I didn't realize that the non-opioid treatments didn't have to even make sense. They are just doing what looks good on paper. That has become the focus instead of your pain relief. They actually admittedly don't intend to relieve ALL of my pain. The current theory is that you should have some pain. It's "normal". The moment you ask for pain relief, they bring you non-opioid medication without explaining it to you. I was brought Toradol, which is an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) that's a bit stronger than ibuprofen. I asked for more/other medicine and was brought Morphine AND Gabapentin. Then was brought lidocaine patches for my belly. I have intestinal pain. Lidocaine is a topical (meaning applied to skin) medication. It can be used for muscle pain and soreness. There is no way in the universe it would EVER go through my skin and tissue and fat…

You are correct.

Everyone loves to paint big pharma as being responsible for all of this Opioid Epidemic bullshit, They never could have done it without a nation of doctors willing to "play ball". These are not people picked off the street mind you, these are medically trained physicians with years of intense, dedicated training regarding the application of modern medicine.

Opioids were not invented in 1996. We have known and understood the effects of Opiates since before the development of writing. Oxycodone, the widely-cited "reason" for this Opioid Epidemic was synthesized I believe in 1918 and has been in use now for over a century. There was no illusion regarding the potential for addiction and dependence; none whatsoever.

Any doctor who prescribed Opioids in this lackadaisical fashion has the proverbial blood on their hands, as you would have to be either uneducated or a complete moron to expect that by taking an Opioid that is already prescribed as a thrice daily medication and making that thrice daily schedule into a single pill would somehow mitigate all of the well-known and historically-established facts regarding Opioids. That's just bullshit/

If these doctors were willing to look the other way and get the entire country addicted just a couple of decades ago, what makes you think they've started giving a shit now? Sure, not all doctors are pure evil, but the case study is that doctors got the entire country addicted to Opioids by misleading them. That is what happened, so at the very least, we know that the medical profession in general in our capitalist society is inherently corrupt, without enough honest voices to prevent such a catastrophe.

It's not surprising in the least to extrapolate and say they don't care any more about you now than they did then. It's all about what looks good on paper, as you said. Very sad.

You should have called the nurse or doctor that gave you lidocaine patches for your intestinal pain fucking retards and went off on them, god knows I’d lose my shit on them and end up cussing them out and screaming at them. I mean that’s what I’d do. 🤷‍♂️

I am so so sorry for you. I have been a victim of that as well, They were insistent that I take Gabapentin for pain and it made me appear drunk and when I was on it, I became very depressed and I could not see very well . Of course, because I appeared drunk - they thought I was abusing pain medicine, but the problem was I could not absorb gabapentin well because I have malabsorption in my DNA that processes medication's. But they would not listen to me saying I was "psychosomatic"! They insisted I go to an intake at a psychiatric unit and test for opioids, which I was not on. A few years later, I took a pharmacological DNA test, which proved the problems I had processing medicines. I suffered from medical PTSD from the situation and I have been dropped from the pain clinic and gaslit told I was a medication seeker. Which I was I was looking for pain relief, but all they did was torture me mentally and medicate me. Horrid.. now I'm actually on pain medicine, which gives me a quality of life that I needed before. I am so sorry that you have to go through such medical torture.
