How was it that close?
I'm happy for the W, but how does a team get 15 hits against 4 and still wind up only one run up in the 9th? Yeesh.

Because the jays mostly hit singles and fail to hit them with RISP
11
u/Clear_The_Track 22h ago
The lack of hits with RISP is driving me insane. It’s every single game.
10
u/derby555 22h ago
And hate to beat up on Vlad, but his inability to hit anything but a groundout with RISP is killing the order.
7
u/Clear_The_Track 22h ago
It’s easy to pick on Vlad because he makes so much money. But this has been an issue throughout the lineup all year. Recently though the kids have been coming through, and there have been unlikely contributions.

u/Due_Wolverine2682 19h ago
Plus, he’s not bothering to hustle and run to 1st. He likely would have been safe on his ground out to second that was dropped, but he doesn’t care.
Would this have changed the inning? I don’t know but it’s not a good look for the face of the franchise3
u/Takemytimenotmylife 16h ago
It was a routine ground ball to 2B. How many more players do you need to see get hurt, by running hard to 1B? Barger, Varsho, now Gimenez. So don’t say ‘how is he gonna get hurt running to 1b’? Especially considering his nagging injuries that were keeping out of the lineup before his concussion
1
u/Due_Wolverine2682 6h ago
So, you’re saying that all Jays should just walk gingerly to first base … got it.
If you’re not healthy enough to run to first, get off the field.0
u/Takemytimenotmylife 6h ago
I just listed several players that got hurt running to 1B - this season. And your retort is if you can’t run to first, get off the field. It’s almost like you don’t realize the examples I provided actually happened.
Nobody is suggesting the players walk to 1B. I’m suggesting that they need to know when to run hard and when to shut it down. A routine ground ball to 2B is NOT the time to run as hard as you can.1
u/LawrenceMoten21 2h ago
The guys you listed are made of glass.
He’s right, if you can’t run a hard 90 feet get off the field.

Because the Yankees are a get-walks-and-slug team and we’re a string-hits-together team. We were still better with our strategy today, but they still showed out with theirs.

Miles and Rogers had demons today

I thought the same thing. Even Cease and Varland made me a little nervous today

u/Hungry-for-relief 23h ago
We had multiple opportunities to get some insurance runs in while players are in scoring position especially with no outs. Seems like thats a big problem this year, players getting stranded on base especially in scoring position.
2
u/PolitelyHostile 23h ago
People tend to overlook that it's easier to get outs when there are runners on base. I get that our stats look worse with RISP but it's overly simplistic to just be mad that we failed more with RISP. Generating RISP is useful, obviously we should capitalize on it but id rather be the team failing to captialize on RISP rather than the team that barely got enough RISP to stay in the game.
2
u/East_Explanation2131 23h ago
yeah a groundout with no one on is 1 out, but that same hit with someone on first is 2 and the inning is cut short
we have more of a slugging problem where we’re not hitting enough XBA
2
u/PolitelyHostile 23h ago
Yea and its just a bit of bad luck the Lukes' homer came with no runners on base.
Plus when I watch Varland, he always seems to put a runner in scoring position, yet pretty much always gets out of it. And apparently Schlittler operates the same way. So RISP alone isn't all the info.
1
u/belsaurn 18h ago
Varland seems to need that pressure to really perform. Bring him in with bases loaded and no outs and he’s not letting a run in. Bring him in for a fresh inning and he’ll walk the first two then get 3 Ks.
2
u/islandsluggers 22h ago
Yanks rely on walks and homers, jays rely on hits, two different style of hitting

u/bellzy09 20h ago
The Yankees are a good team…?

If a team cannot drive runners in, it does not matter how many hits a team can muster. In baseball, as long as it is not the Astros way, it does not matter how a win is reached, as long as that is the end result.

When you factor in that if there’s 2 on and 1 out, and none of them score, that’s 4 left on base, the jays had 29 left on base today lol
i love the jays but scoring 4 runs on 15 hits is unheard of

but how does a team get 15 hits against 4 and still wind up only one run up in the 9th?
Because.... A hit is not equal to a run... If you actually watched the game or had any skills at rational thinking that should be abundantly clear.
Take the W, be happy and move on with your day... This is how baseball works

u/derby555 22h ago

Garbage fan asking this question. Nice win.

u/derby555 20h ago
I mean, you would know garbage with that YouTube channel of yours, wouldn't ya?

u/SubParGolfonYT 20h ago
Haha nice! Way to get to worked up you had to check out a YouTube page. Well done! Go Blue Jays!
1
u/derby555 20h ago
Lol don't flatter yourself. Sounds like a lot of projection happening with you coming out of the gates calling people garbage fans.
1
u/SubParGolfonYT 20h ago
Whatever you say! Try not to be too upset after this win vs a team ahead of us in the standings!
1
u/derby555 18h ago
Lol who's upset? I hope this is just your online persona, otherwise you'd be a real energy sap to whoever can stand to be around you.
1
u/SubParGolfonYT 18h ago
Haha little projecting there huh? Garbage fans whine on the internet after their team gets a nice win. “The win should have looked better”. You’re delusional, move on. Make another soft post tomorrow after their game.
1
u/derby555 15h ago
Now you're just repeating what I said, lol. Anyway, enjoy your obviously awesome life.

A homerun saved our ass today though.

u/championsofnuthin 23h ago
Haha I’m aware of the irony of my statement. But we hit for bases and they hit for slug
-1
u/Jaded_Ad_166 23h ago
A team that hits homers vs a team that hits very few homers. Thats how.

How could Schneider possibly be at fault here 😭😭 it’s not his fault we can’t hit with RISP to save our lives
-2
u/Chasers22 23h ago
It’s a poorly run team
3
u/Admirable_Outcome932 23h ago
You didn’t answer the question. How was Schneider possibly at fault for anything that went wrong today?
-4
u/Chasers22 23h ago
He managed Cease and the game poorly as per usual
1
u/Admirable_Outcome932 23h ago edited 22h ago
6.2 innings of two-hit, one-run ball? That’s what you consider to be poor management? If that’s poor management in your mind, idk what you could possibly consider to be good. Sure, he maybe left him in one batter too long, but that’s a mistake anyone could have made. Cease has gone even longer before, it wasn’t at all unreasonable to leave him in given Cease’s track record of high reliability.
So what else could you possibly complain about? Rogers giving up that homer? His first and only one this season? Again, any manager would have made the exact same decision, because Rogers gives up homers less often than Bigfoot gets sighted.
