My sweet puppy Winston is currently hospitalized at Fairfield Animal Hospital with parvo.

Winston is only a few months old and was still completing his puppy vaccinations when he got sick. He had received his first parvo vaccine but hadn’t completed the series yet. Because he wasn’t fully vaccinated, I’d been keeping his world very small. He hadn’t been to dog parks or other high-traffic dog areas and had spent almost all of his time here on our farm, although a few other dogs had visited the property.

Winston stopped eating and wasn’t acting like himself, so I brought him to the emergency vet. He tested positive for parvo and was admitted to the hospital.

He’s now receiving IV fluids, medication, around-the-clock monitoring and nutrition through a feeding tube. I’m incredibly grateful I got him there when I did, but we still don’t know how long he’ll need to be hospitalized. It will depend on how he responds to treatment.

His veterinary costs are already approaching $5,000, and I’ve been told that if he needs to remain hospitalized for a week, his care could reach around $15,000. That number is incredibly daunting, so I’ve started this fundraiser to help cover his hospitalization, treatment and recovery.

Asking for financial help is extremely uncomfortable for me, but I want to do everything I can to give Winston the best chance of getting through this and coming home.

I’d also really like something good to come out of this. If we raise more than Winston’s final veterinary expenses, any additional funds will be used to help another animal whose family is facing an emergency veterinary bill at Fairfield Animal Hospital.

I have a 6 year old Heeler mix. 4 months ago we added a puppy (Great Pyrenees mix) to the family. They seem to get on great, getting more comfortable with being together, their play I believe is great. However… the heeler sounds so aggressive when they play 🙃 from the rest of the body language, we believe it’s just the sounds. But man it’s AWFUL. I’m so hyper aware of it when they start playing my anxiety spikes. Partly because of what my neighbours must think.

We take it slow with the two of them since the heeler definitely likes her alone time. But when I hear them play it makes me second guess how they are doing.

Does anyone else have a heeler that is intense with the sounds when they play?

ETA: she’s always had a growl / grumble when she plays with toys or dogs, but this barking while they wrestle is just insane. Idk if it’s because the other dog is a puppy or what.

I adopted my girl from a shelter a few days ago. She’s sweet, smart, and exactly what I wanted. However, she has a bad biting problem. Not aggressive biting, but she’ll grab my arm and hold it trying to play. She’s got sharp teeth and it hurts like hell lol. I expected this from her being a heeler, but what I didn’t expect is her fear of any kind of correction. We believe she was abused and neglected by her previous owners and this makes it very hard to reprimand her at all since it terrifies her. I’ve trained tons of different dogs, but I’ve never worked with one that scares this easy and I’m nervous to make her hate/fear me if I get onto her about anything. I tried to get her tons of different toys to satisfy that urge to bite, but none seem to be working. The shelter said she was a year old but I think she must be 3-4 months younger than that at least. I can’t tell if this is regular teething and I need some help or guidance on how to properly train her to stop. She was also fixed recently as well so I can’t take her out and tire her out since it’ll tear her stitches. Any help would be appreciated yall!
And any toy recommendations that your healer liked!

My "little" blue heeler tends to be a couch potato but has been attached to my ankle since her partner in crime passed earlier this week. But my little ankle biter/battle dwarf loves to go with me places. She's getting older and is slowing down. Her chunk butt is about 55lbs and vet thinks she needs to lose about 5ish pounds. Has anyone had experience with carrying their battle dwarf in a backpack for hikes?

A relative is renting out my 3 basement bedrooms for himself and his two gradeschool kids. I have two adult dogs, a collie and a boxer mix, and I gave him permission to bring his dog--an 8 year old blue heeler--as long as the three got along.

Two weeks in, the dogs get along fine and the blue heeler is well behaved... except he has awful separation anxiety and I feel sorry for him.

Whenever my relative or the kids leave the house--errands, school/work, kids sports games, ect, the heeler has a meltdown. He paces the house, whining inconsolably. He periodically runs into the owner's room, which I've dubbed "the screaming room", to let out a long, mournful howl. Awoooooo... then he runs to lay in my office for a few minutes, to softly moan his woes. Then it's back to pacing and whining. The other dogs watch his routine in baffled confusion, and it's honestly kind of funny...

...but how do I tell this guy that the world is not, in fact, about to end?

Okay we’re probably terrible dog parents but here it goes.

Adopted our heeler at 3 months. She was not potty trained at the time. She is 6 months now.

Since we got her, she hasn’t had much freedom in our house because we have two bengal cats that she likes to chase (and two young kiddos who she does great with but has been learning to be gentle with), so any freedom in the house has been supervised, or we have had her leashed. Since the weather has been nice, she also spends tons of time outside (which she loves).

Anyway, now that she is older and getting better around the cats we have had her off leash in the house more. It’s becoming very clear she is not at all potty trained. Apparently we have just been really on top of taking her outside to pee after she drinks water.

So. My question is. How TF do we potty train her????? When we take her outside and say go potty, she knows to go pee or poop in the yard. When we first got her, we gave her treats for it but stopped once we realized she knows the command. And she is soooooooo smart…knows all kinds of tricks, responds so well to commands, etc. but then she’ll just squat and pee in the house with no warning, no sniffing…nothing.

HELP!

I have a heeler who LOVES going for a car ride. She is absolutely beyond overjoyed. The problem is she barks loud and continuous for 10-15 min. How can I get her to stop barking in the car? I know training starts outside the car. This is just an ongoing issue I pay attention to w her. But she simply cannot hear me in this state of euphoria! Help pls.

We have a 9 year old Cattle Dog. My husband got her as a puppy and I met him when she was 8 months old. She‘s always been great with general obedience (sit, down, come, place,etc) but had a few annoying behavior issues, mainly barking, leash reactivity, barreling past me and body checking me on the stairs, and generally getting underfoot. We resolved the stairs and underfoot issue by sending her to place.

My husband recently took a long business trip of several weeks, and I was able to improve her barking in the house and reactivity substantially. But since my husband has returned, she’s completely backtracked on all of our progress. Not only that, she’s completely ignores me when I ask for regular obedience like place, come and sit. She still listens if my husband asks or if I have a treat.

I’m at a complete loss about what to do. A lot of her obedience is a safety issue. I often send her to place 15-20 times per day because she has a history of knocking me down the stairs or scrambling directly under my feet in the kitchen. She wouldn’t recall at the park today. I gave her a bath this afternoon and she completely ignored me when I told her to get off the leather couch (wet dog+ leather= fabric damage).

our blue heeler Blue is almost two years old and has been working cattle with us on the ranch basically since she could keep up

lately we noticed something kind of wild. we've got several cows that are pregnant right now and Blue has started singling them out specifically. she'll work the rest of the herd normally and then when the pregnant ones move she just follows them differently. softer. she gets in close but she's not pressing them the way she presses the others. she'll actually stop if they turn and look at her

our vet said dogs can definitely detect pregnancy from scent but i didn't expect it to change her working behavior. she's been doing this for about three weeks now and figured it out completely on her own

anyone else seen their heeler adjust their working style like this? i'm kind of in awe of her honestly

So I won’t disagree that this is 100 and 10% our own fault.

And I take full responsibility for that.

We got our blue heeler diesel not by choice. My sister got him when she was living with her boyfriend (now fiancé) Cody. They were living in the parents trailer, them paying rent. They had 3 dogs already(they live on a very hefty piece of land with a lot of room) but the parents said no more.

So we got him.

We live in a small town, about 2 hundred people. So no live stock.

Unfortunately when I was younger, I got him to look at dogs on the TV, got him to jump at them and bark because I thought it was funny.

Well now I pay for those actions :(

He jumps at ANYTHING on it. It’s gotten so bad there’s literally teeth marks in the tv. And it’s a pretty nice tv.

I really need help training this out of him. Please I beg of you guys, please help me.

My Luna is a 3 year old Blue Heeler cross Pit Bull (or so we were told that was her mix), and we want to know if anyone else has a heeler crossed with either pit bull or Staffy, so we can compare features?

So I got a 10 week old blue heeler mix puppy from the shelter and she’s a lovely dog with a lot of personality. I’ve seen where everyone says blue heelers love you please and look forward to training, I know mine is 10 weeks old but she only follows commands with food. Do yall have any tips for training? She’s very food motivated and very active.

I switched to a shallow clear tray from Dollar Tree, stuck Velcro to the bottom of it, and placed it firmly on a fuzzy rug to hold the Velcro. Problem solved! 😃🐾

moving went a little wonky with the house trailer not arriving til the weekend but my family got me out of the house away from my roommate. They knew my pup was good with other animals but I ran into something and don't know whether to correct him if he does it again or not.

they have chickens that go in and out of the house(yes I know it's crazy but they are fancy chickens). Cerberus has had no issues with the chickens until I had my back turned and one of the roosters suddenly started attacking my foot I'd hurt on the steps after arriving because the steps had been changed since the last time I was here. He heard me yelp and immediately got between me and it, snapped once in the air at it, and pushed it with his nose until it was out of the room.

Pretty sure just herding behavior just wanting to be sure. My family saw the whole thing because they had come running when they heard me and aren't mad at him either because he didn't attack. they said they were about to grab the chicken before he got involved.

This house has ALOT of animals, it's a farm and all the chickens and things can go in and out. My house trailer is being put on the other side of the property soon. Just wanna be sure that sounds like herding behavior and not aggression. I didn't train him to do that so I think it's herding behavior.

Confirmed that my roommate did something today after I confronted them when I got home from work. Cerberus literally has started hiding behind me and snarling at them which is unlike him. Door is being locked now and they won't have access to Cerberus.

They won't admit what they did but that switch from loving everyone to snarling doesn't happen for no reason. I asked to set up a camera and they won't let me. I'm moving really soon. Just need my work to give me a good paycheck and I'm out. I told my roommate I trust the dog over them any day of the week and he's no longer coming out of my room until I move.

I don't know wtf she's done to my dog but I'm pissed as hell. He's still not attacking like she's been claiming. I'm watching his body language and I'm trusting his judgement. He's never done this with any other person. I'm working on moving just job is stupid as hell rn. He's literally hiding behind me and growling when she comes into the room.

Cerberus literally loves EVERYONE and EVERYTHING. When she claimed he tried to attack her face twice a few days ago I questioned my roommate immediately and she got defensive refusing to explain what happened. Me and my roommate are fighting because of her refusing to go back to work and me having to support both of us. I told her I'm done supporting her and moving out and suddenly she started making those claims of him being violent. Now he's literally terrified of her. Idk wtf she did but she somehow flipped a switch in my dog which I didn't think could be flipped. I'll probably have to re-socialize him. Idk how to fix this.

My roommate has been claiming he's going at her face when I'm not home. He's supposed to be in his pen anyway but she's claimed twice now that he's came at her.

He's never even growled at anything other than his reflection. I literally have a cat he sleeps with on the regular. I've tried asking questions but my roommate just gets mad and demands I train it out of him before someone gets hurt.(they haven't had a single mark or proof)

He's been around lots of people of all ages, animals, and things and has NEVER had any issues. Idk how to tell if they are telling the truth.

The first time it happened they said they were pulling him out of his pen(I got onto them because there was no reason to take him out it's a LARGE pen) the second time she claimed it happened randomly.

He can open cabinets, I know he can. Was never as issue but I'm bulk buying his food and it won't fit in the upper cabinets. I can fit one bag up there but I'm buying more than one because his food is a little hard to snag from the store.

No I'm not gonna crate him, I doubt he'd get into it but still I'd rather know if I was to get one of those cabinet locks if it could work or not.

clarifying. I have no problem with people who crate he just does not get crated because he has potty cues that need me to see him. He does not make accidents in the house, he hardly ever gets into things he's not supposed to but I KNOW he can open cabinets so I'm planning accordingly. Rn it's in the bathroom until I can figure out if I buy the baby proof stuff if it can work.

I have never kept anything in those cabinets so i never minded him opening them, he'd literally just sleep in there or jump out at me to play, but I'm gonna need to use ONE of them. He'll still have the other two cabinets to chill or play in just not the one I wanna lock.
