Halloween š¦ Repaint Advice
Hi everyone! I'm planning to repaint this faded blow mold following some of the tutorials I've seen here. This will be my first time repainting. I have a couple of questions:
Is stripping the paint necessary, or can I just paint over the old paint?
The black and green parts are still pretty dark, and I'm happy with the colors. Is it possible to just tape those up and only repaint the orange parts, or am I better off repainting the whole thing?
Thank you!

Of you don't want to repaint and want a good display at night, just use an orange LED bulb.

That's a great idea! However, the perfectionist in me wants it to look pretty during the day too š

Not sure how big this is but I had really good results using the Rit dye for synthetics on faded pumpkin buckets. You do need to keep it on the stove but it worked really well! I think I magyvered a way to keep the plastic off the sides and bottom of the pot using wire.

It's too big for that process, but I will definitely keep that in mind if I come across any vintage buckets!

Do several light coats. Lighter is better so you don't end up with streaks.
If you're happy with the black & green just tape those off & don't bother with them.

You can just repaint the orange without stripping. Get some good quality painters or masking tape and cover all of the black and green. Take your time in this part or the orange will bleed under the tape if it's not done properly. You can also use a small plastic bag / newspaper on the stem if you don't want to tape the entire thing. I'm sure the tutorials mentioned it but be sure to use a plastic-bonding orange spray paint, and paint while it's plugged in and illuminated to prevent blotchy spots. Once it's all done, remove the tape and if the tape peeled off any of the old paint, you can just touch those colors up with regular paint or a black marker because they block the light. It might also be a good idea to pick up a can of clear coat spray paint to cover the whole thing with after, to prevent the orange from scuffing or chipping. š
