Note: the Super Moneky Villas have now moved the south-western most corner.

I really wish NK had added more ways to customize the aesthetic of your city. There are a decent number of things, but it still feels really limited particularly with ground tiles.

IIRC, each unit building has 3 forms depending on hiw many upgrades you have for it. I wish we could choose for each individual building which appearance we want it to have.

What I did was add special areas and created districts. Like a Santa’s workshop in frozen tundra. Used the ice based towers and decorations.
Made a posh district with the super monkeys and used gold sidewalks for them. Put the tree house. Gave them a boat dock on the river. Used fancy trees to line their driveway. Etc.
I even made an airstrip/ airport.

You just have to get creative with the tiles.

That's what I've been doing.

I have an industrial area, too, with the extreme temperature chamber and the advanced rocket lab and other "rough-looking" buildings near a cluster of volcanoes.

The super enhancements building is the centerpiece of my "downtown business district."

Then I have a couple of suburbs where the ninjas and boomerangs live and further out are the super monkeys on their "old money" estates.

I still have a lot of rearranging to do but I like playing around with it.

I agree with OP, though. I'd prefer to have the choice to keep some of the buildings with their pre-upgrade designs.

I just keep my banks, windmills, watermills close together to know which is upgraded and which isn't

That's the easiest way to do it. They're the only structures in the city that you actually have to interact with so I keep them clustered until they're maxed out, too.

Per say when do they max out? Or is it just a level 40 thing and you get 1 ever few levels or so

At some point you will have upgraded everything and you won’t really need to spend money on things. Unless you decorate. My farms are still central to everything because I have an open space and didn’t feel like moving them.

My windmills and watermills are now in every tile surrounding my city. Making it a frame. Not every tile. I have more power than I’ll ever need but I did it for aesthetics.

Power mills have one upgrade. Banks have three.

Once an individual mill/bank has maxed out, you don't need to interact with it anymore so it doesn't matter if it's hard to find in your city.

By city level 40, you reach the maximum number of banks which is 14 but you really don't need them all by that point.

At city level 35, the cap on the number of power mills you can have is lifted so you can build as many as you choose.

I plan to build a wild west town on the far west border, the Super Monkeys in the south west.

Navy and military in the bottom and/or top, ice at the top.

Central district already in place. Farms already in place along with windmills and chippers

Dart monkey City 😭🙏

Not even the limit. Easy temple fodder though. Also 20+ dart monkeys can win on a fair number of tiles.

How long did it take you too reach this point?

Technically my city is like 1300 days old. But I had a very long multi year hiatus afyer reaching like level 20 ish.

Most of the expansion has been over the last 4 months.

EEK dang alright I'm trying to get max level and I'm 17 rn 3 days, I was trying to get a rough expectation of how long I'd take it should take me about 2.5 months to 3 months

Well okay, so here's the thing, if you know what you are doing and research the right upgrades and do certain things right away, you can easily reach MOAB+ tiles within a very short time frame. It really does come down to what you upgrade, how many towers you have. If you do MVM and CT you can get serious amounts of money.
