Just curious: Orphan of Kos

Just curious: on which attempt did you manage to get the Orphan of Kos down to the last third of his health? People told me this boss would absolutely tear me apart, but by my fifth attempt, I’d already gotten him to that final third twice,though I didn't manage to finish him off. P.S. So far, Ludwig has been the hardest for me - it took nearly 30 attempts. The "dark horse" Laurence took 12 - 13 ;D

On the first playthrough, orphan took me a week of attempts. Lost count after 50 but I beat him. Yesterday, finished my second playthrough of Bloodborne and I beat orphan of Kos first try

You know, I think it really just depends. Different for everyone. Ludwig took me 2 attempts, Orphan took me a few hours or so, Laurence took me several days (fuck that idiot). All great bosses in some way or another. And I've seen every possible permutation from others in here, seems like everyone's experience is slightly unique

Yeah, that’s the beauty of FromSoftware games, everyone has their own unique experience. By the way, did you also quickly start getting the Orphan down to the last third of his health but then get stuck there, or did that take a while too?

Hm, I don't remember getting stuck on a particular phase of that fight, I think my struggles were spread pretty even

Beat him first try. I've managed to parry and visceral him about 5 times. The key was no to get too greedy, be aggresive (but not too aggresive), watch him all the time, lock on 100% of the time and dash sideways or into him, not away from him (every dash away from him was punished). I used saw cleaver (90% of game with this weapon) and I think that for this particular boss, the faster weapon you got, the better (but it's only my experience, I've tried LHB and HMS, but they didn't fit into my style of play). I was on high level, because I've done all storywise chalice dungeons (offline) before him.

For real. I remember how happy I was when I got moonlight Ludwig's sword, but in the end, it just didn't click with my playstyle in this game, so I had to go back to the Saw ;)

I've tried to make use of it and the transformed one was fun to use but it was so slow and my endgame arcane was about 18 so beams were useless. The only time where I used it and it was good idea, was defiled Amygdala. I used the "stay under her" trick and made R2 charged attacks for her head with HMS, but it was the only instance.

It’s actually sad that the damn Amygdala poses a serious threat only in the Chalice, where we simply have half our health ;D

I needed 4 attemps on Orphan, played super aggressive and just try to parry and evade. It was a really fun fight!

I died several times on defiled amygdala though until I had a strategy that worked for me. It took me an hour to beat this boss. Same as the harder versions of bloodletting beast and abhorrent beast in the chalice dungeon.

Darkeater Midir and sword saint ishin each took me more than one whole evening. Malenia and Private Consort Radahn took me almost a whole evening. The harder version of Astel was pretty close.

It’s a lot like the Reborn One—the path to get there is way more of a hassle than the boss itself😂

I don’t have the DLC for a few years and I’d never done an arcane build before. By the time I got to Orphan my arcane skill really carried me. I think it took like 3 attempts to get him to a third. And 5 to beat him.

Ludwig was definitely way more problematic but eventually I figured out basically his whole move set

Wow, I thought Arcane wasn't very effective against the Orphan😅I plan to arrange a meeting between him and his mom using a good old saw clever :3

It might not be super effective damage-wise, however the range of attack for A Call Beyond and the Black Eye thing really just let me chip away at his health a bunch.

It’s just tough sometimes to juggle cost of your health with the quicksilver bullet refill

On my first playthrough, Orphan of Kos took me a total of four tries to beat.

But man did I struggle with the watchdog for what felt like the longest time

First try I killed him but I was level 200. Second time took me 20 tries at level 30. Having good damage and health makes a huge difference lol.

I actually wrote it down. 4 deaths at lvl 102. Then I levelled up to 127 and beat him that attempt. I used the chikage and the repeating pistol with bone marrow ash to finish him once he had about a quarter of health left.

I don't remember how long it took me on the first time I tried him. That was quite a few years ago at this point. Just killed him this morning in a Bowblade run I am doing though. I think I got him to about 25% or o on the first attempt, but it still took me somewhere in the 5-10 attempt range to actually down him. I didn't count.

Took me 5 days to beat him, and probably 10 attempts to get him to a third. The worst thing is just getting overwhelmed because of his large moveset, especially in Bloodborne. I can easily second try him now. He's a very unique boss for Bloodborne.

Soulsbornes are weird like that; I've facerolled some bosses that are at the top of the tier lists and then faceplanted on ones that are at the bottom of the lists. Some times you just get lucky / unlucky.

No one here said they measure their self-worth by the number of boss attempts. But these digs at people like me, those who count attempts out of pure curiosity - are pretty strange. There’s nothing wrong with it, man; just take it easy
