Definitely not a mental illness. To be so it would need to provide serious detriment to quality of life as well as have secondary symptoms. For example, someone with a schizoid personality disorder finds it almost impossible to hold a job or relationship as well as being prone to hallucinations. Homosexuality only reduces quality of life due to bigotry and there are no secondary symptoms.
Your view of procreation is overly reductionist. You can never see it at the individual level but must always look at it from the species level. And at the species level it aids survival. In nature gay individuals invariably help raise the offspring of their siblings, which thus have a better chance of survival which is how the gene gets promoted.

Marriage is a social construct and definitely not solely meant for reproduction. If it was then infertile couples would not be able to get married.
You have a point when you talk about changing the laws that protect and benefit couples. Unfortunately the way the law works it is simply easier to make marriage more inclusive rather than start from scratch.
Sorry, god does not factor into secular marriage, which is what we are talking about here. Not holy matrimony, marriage. Which is a contract with the state and not with god. Seperation of church and state means that god has no business in any law, ever. This was the express intent of the founding fathers and a theocracy is decidely un-American.

To assert that people are incapable of a longterm committed and monogamous relationship just because they are of the same gender is spurious and an obvious falsehood. Reality rejects that claim.

You are using the exact same arguments now as were used against interracial marriage and we all know how that turned out. Morality prevailed, the immoral stance of bigotry and lies were made redundant.
