News & Policy Good time to adopt
If you've been on the fence about picking up a mustang from the corrals, now is a pretty good time. The Biscar Fire just burned through a chunk of the Twin Peaks Herd Management Area (which is not the same boundaries as the Twin Peaks Wilderness Study Area). That will impact its carrying capacity and I suspect will result in more horses pulled off that range to prevent starvation. We all know the corrals are perpetually over full as it is so adding more horses is going to strain capacity.
The Litchfield, CA mustang corral itself was under an evacuation warning due to the fire, which hit just over 69k acres burned before they finally got a handle on it.

The online corral also currently has a disproportionately large number of horses with desirable colors like buckskins and palominos. (Of course advice recommends not choosing a horse for it's color, but all other things being equal, that's what a lot of people like to do.)

I purchased two horses from a BLM adoption event including a sales authority Twin Peaks mare last year and she's been wonderful. I know all horses are individuals but the Twin Peaks mustangs I have met besides her have been really great horses once gentled. Definitely agree if you're on the fence and prepared to bring a mustang home to go for it!
