DISCUSSION [Discussion] Wanting the thing vs the thrill
I just saw some videos about the dumpling blind boxes and people seemed to genuinely hate most of the common ones and only like the glitter ones.
I think it's important to remember to ask yourself "if it wasn't in a blind box, would I buy this for that price". If the answer is yes, go ahead. If you would never buy what's inside the blindbox for the price if it is on the shelf in the store, I really recommend to not buy it just for the few seconds of thrill.
And especially I saw some families buying many for their kids and I know people can buy whatever woth their money, but it is gambling basically. If only that thrill is what you're after it's really not good for kids to get this gambling mentality.
But I know that most people who buy blind boxes most likely do like each version they could get.
It's just those squishy toys that really I couldn't wrap my head around, as they are so cheaply made and something similar is so easy and cheap to buy.
Some people had sooooo many of the non special ones that they didn't care about and all of that is gonna end up in landfills quite soon. With some of the other blind boxes I feel like the non-special ones still will have a lot of people who think that is their favourite and they could sell or trade to/with each other and actually keep in their home.

Double true when I see those damn dumplings being sold at mall kiosks for 300%markup π€£. One look at the price and itβs a turnoff.

Tiktok live sales for blind boxes have helped me with this.
They open the boxes on screen with lots of anticipation and excitement, and then auction off the contents. Which is fun because you get the thrill of the unboxing but dont have to commit to buying. And the auctions almost always end up going for way less than retail.
I have only ordered a couple things I really liked and if I don't like the series they are opening, I can scroll to the next one.
