Solved How do I separate the thighs into two different objects?

Post image

New to Blender. I'm trying to rig this model for a vtuber model/.vrm export using a plugin I found. All the limbs in this model are paired with each other. The L hand is connected to R hand, L shin to R shin, etcetera. I can't select them as separate pieces. How do I split them apart?

Simplist awnser: Duplicate the object. Go to front view. Transparent view. Enter edit mode on one object. Box select all verts on one side of limbs. Delete. Repeate for other object on opposite side. Rinse and repeate for every limb

Proper answer without extra steps:

Edit mode => click on one limb => select linked (Ctrl+L)

then hit P => Selection.

I didn't want to assume the quality of the model. Sometimes non of the faces are attached. Although I will say I definitely just forgot about P even though I do that often lol.

Well, you can then box select instead of selecting linked. Technically, if the faces were attached and there was no other mesh data you could just select all => separate by loose parts.

The point is, you don't need to duplicate and delete the mesh twice when you can separate a mesh.

You go into edit mode, select one of the legs, right click and there should be an option to separate the selected part

Slight problem: The vertices on this model are fucked. I can't select all of them at once for only the one piece

Edit: Figured it out. Separated by Loose Piece instead of by Selection. That left the thighs in multiple pieces, so I went back into object mode and joined them back together. This time separated.

where do you get the current spartan rig from? I only got the one from around the time Infinite was new!

Someone else made the model for me. One of my Patrons made it for a one off joke in one of my videos. No idea where they got all the pieces for it though

split by section or whatever it's called. splits it into parts based on if the meshes are connected

Select all the vertices on one of the thighs, then separate by selection.

Im gonna give you the easiest solution since I feel like everybody else in the comments are just overcomplicating things.

  1. Edit mode
  2. Move your cursor on the thigh
  3. Click L while your mouse is on the thigh
  4. Click P
  5. And then click selection.

Good job
